Tettegouche State Park, Silver Bay MN

Winter travel over frozen rivers is a good way to see the landscape from a different and unique perspective. Wildlife use these natural corridors in the winter, leaving signs of their passage. Join the Park Naturalist for a guided snowshoe hike from the bridge up to the Cascades of the Baptism River.

Have you visited the Two Harbors breakwall?

Two Harbors Breakwater Lighthouse stands at the end of the breakwater at the entrance to Lake Superior’s Agate Bay. First established in 1895, it first began as a square skeleton iron structure.

It’s an excellent place to watch massive ore freighters loading up taconite at the Ore Docks and traveling in and out of the harbor.

Finally, SNOW!

The North Shore (and much of Minnesota!) got its first good snowfall today, and I couldn’t be happier! This afternoon, I walked down to the shore, and the fresh snow covered everything like a soft, white blanket.

For the next few days, the North Shore will be a magical winter wonderland. Who else is ready to embrace the season?

Lake County and the North Shore prove excellent places to fat-bike ride through beautiful forests offering various elevations and wide-open views of majestic Lake Superior!

Fat bikes are designed for winter riding, featuring lower air pressure and big fat tires that allow you to float over snowy trails, whereas other types of tires sink. As a result, the winter sport is growing in popularity in winter climates and ranks as a top winter activity in northern Minnesota.
