The Milky Way Core is Back!

Early this morning, Nicholas J. Narog Photography and I made our way down to the shore for our first glimpse of the Milky Way Core in 2025—and what a sight it was!

When we arrived, a few clouds lingered, but as the core began to rise, they drifted south, revealing a stunning cosmic display. To make it even better, we were treated to a beautiful SAR ARC for most of the night!

There’s nothing quite like being under the stars again—feeling the crisp air, hearing the waves, and witnessing the universe in all its glory.

Heritage Days is scheduled for the July 10-12 weekend. We will continue to keep you posted on the event details as we get closer.

Did you know?

The Two Harbors Light Station remains the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on Minnesota's North Shore. Overlooking Lake Superior's Agate Bay, the Light Station is located in Two Harbors, Minnesota. The construction of the Light Station began in 1891 and was completed in 1892. The first lighting of the Two Harbors light was on April 14, 1892.

Lovin' Lake County received the "Outstanding Video" Award at the 2025 Explore Minnesota Tourism Conference for our "Nature's Rhythm, Center Stage" campaign with GB Leighton. A big shout-out to Parthe Visual Communications for their creative leadership, talented production team, and outstanding visual storytelling through video.

"We're honored to be recognized by Explore Minnesota for our marketing efforts. The award reflects the dedication of our team and the invaluable support of our local businesses, residents, and elected officials. Tourism is an essential economic driver for our region, and we're proud to contribute to its growth and sustainability," said Executive Director Janelle Jones.

Ever wanted to showshoe?

Join us for a Snowshoe Hike to the Cascades in Tettegouche State Park in Silver Bay MN on Sunday February 23rd from 1-4pm!

Participants may use a pair of our rental snowshoes (for free) or bring your own trusty pair. Loaner snowshoes will be available on a first come, first served basis, so please arrive a little early to get your pair. Should river ice conditions not be ideal (it will be scouted ahead of time) this hike will be moved to the lakeside trails in the Cart-In Campground.
