We have had lots of fun times on the Kingfisher recently. Lots of fish being caught with small hooks and little baits. We hook up with loads of different species and you never know what you might see or catch. We have recently added Grey triggerfish and Spadefish to our list.
The coolest thing last week was when a large ribbon fish grabbed a young girl's pinfish as she got it close to the boat. We did not hook it but watched and felt it bite that fish and swim off with it. We have also had some fantastic dolphin sightings. On more than one occasion, we have watched a large pod swimming with babies that stretched for several hundred yards. The weather is hot but so is the action. Come on out for a boat ride.

The Kingfisher had lots of kids on board last week and they all had a blast. We had some good dolphin sightings, learned a little about commercial crabbing, found lots of hermit crabs, saw lots of birds, and caught loads of fish.

Highlights include dolphins swimming under the boat, watching a stingray swim two inches from shore in two inches of water, and finding a Hermit crab with some cool looking purple stuff on its shell.

Coolest gross thing to happen was when I started pulling on what I thought was a piece of line coming out of the mouth of a Sea robin. I pulled on ‘the string’ and it was really an eight inch Pipefish. We cut it up and tried it for bait but had no bites.

Anyone ever get stuck by one of these? A lot of these fish get caught on my boat. When they start hitting the deck two or three at a time, there is a lot of high stepping going on.

The skiff is sporting a new outboard. I couldn't deal with the Etec any longer.

These fish acted more angry than hungry today and that made for some awesome topwater hits from some very nice trout. We went out with captain Bud Bishop today and he did not disappoint. With muddy water and high winds he still put us on some large fish that gave us some explosive action. It was a blast.

I tried out some powder paint. Pretty easy to do and they came out nice.

Fished the sound today with and found some nice fish. Really good bite until the wind switched and they got lockjaw.

Okay and , I guess I’ll throw mine into the mix. Throwback to crazy January days releasing 40 inch plus fish and then catching another just like it. Around you there are so many Gannets diving that you wish you had worn a hardhat. Sure would like to see striper fishing like that again.

The fall garden is producing nicely. I even have a tough little cherry tomato hanging in there. Time for some rockfish stir fry.

Gale winds two days ago, gale winds tomorrow. I found a pretty day in between. I also found what I was looking for.

The first day of fall is right around the corner. As the water cools down, the fishing heats up. Looking forward to some great Sheepshead fishing for the next month or so.

During June, July, and August I mainly do family fishing trips with small children. This equates to a lot of bottom fishing for pins and piggies but we do have our fair share of exciting days. With all of the east winds that we had this summer, there was a lot of ocean water in the sound. Some toothy critters came in with it. We had a few ribbonfish encounters. This little one was struggling with a decent Bluefish but was getting the job done. As it neared the boat, a ribbonfish attacked its head. It shook it for a second, let go, and then focused its attention on the fish’s rear. It grabbed it again, there was little drag scream and the back portion was quickly severed. That Bluefish came in pretty easy after that. Very cool stuff!

I caught this the other day. No joke. Bottom rig in 24 feet of water. Cedar bush bay. Going back to try for the other one as soon as this wind lays down.
