Watch any Disneyland fan walk into the park, and you’ll see their eyes glance up to the left just before they reach Main Street, USA. Walt Disney’s apartment sits nestled above the Town Square Fire Station, easily invisible to those who don’t know of its existence, while remaining an iconic part of Disneyland to those who do…

Walt had always known he would need a place to rest and sleep in Disneyland. The Park was built while he was in the middle of producing Lady and the Tramp, which meant countless car journeys between a semi-completed Park, The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, and his Carolwood Drive home.

So the decision was made: Walt would have a small apartment built near Main Street, USA.

To be one of the few who have visited this most special magical place - is a true honor.

In the words of Walt: “The idea for Disneyland came about when my daughters were very young and Saturday was always Daddy’s day with the two daughters. . . and as I’d sit [on a bench] while they rode the merry-go-round . . . I felt that there should be something built where the parents and the children could have fun together. So that’s how Disneyland started. [I]t all started from a daddy with two daughters wondering where he could take them where he could have a little fun with them, too.”

Can we take a moment to talk about Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln? Seriously. I know, I know, it’s not what you think of when you think of Disneyland. But it’s a HUGE piece of Disney history.

Walt Disney originally conceived of a show that would pay tribute to all U.S. Presidents as part of a proposed extension of Main Street. However, the technology at the time would not permit a show on the scale Disney wanted, and the Main Street extension proposal was abandoned (the presidential tribute was later built as The Hall of Presidents at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom). Disney's Imagineers opted to focus instead on creating a tribute to Lincoln, Disney's boyhood hero. It’s a stage show featuring an Audio-Animatronic representation of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. Originally showcased as the prime feature of the State of Illinois Pavilion at the 1964 New York World's Fair, and one year later was moved to the Disneyland Opera House.

Now booking magical, and not-so-scary, Halloween vacations!

This fall, ghosts and ghouls of all ages are invited to don their favorite costumes and celebrate all things haunted during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Taking place on 37 select nights Aug. 12 through Oct. 31, 2022, this special event haunts Magic Kingdom Park after normal park operating hours from 7 p.m. to midnight.

As a part of this limited-capacity event, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party attendees will encounter event-exclusive entertainment, notorious Disney villains, frightfully delicious menu items and more!
