🧡 Today - Giles County Public Library's Spring Book Sale starts today! Through March 31st, check out their sidewalk sale where you can fill a bag of books for $5, get DVD sets and audiobooks for $5, or CDs & DVDs for $1 each.

🧡 Tuesday - Head out into nature this week at Wolf Gap! Set up a picnic, do some birdwatching, or simply walk the trails from dawn to dusk!

🧡 Wednesday - Catch the UT Southern Firehawks Tennis team at home, Men's vs. Cumberland University at 11:00am and Women's vs. University of Northern Iowa at 3:00pm.

March is Women’s History Month, and what better way to celebrate than with the Giles Chamber Girl Power Hour next Thursday, March 13th! This year it will be held at the Pulaski National Guard Armory.

This inspiring luncheon will bring together over 200 women for a day of connection, empowerment, and bold new experiences. Attendees will hear from dynamic women on the Empower Panel, create a vision board to map out their future, and even step outside their comfort zone on the rock climbing wall. Matt Gardner’s legacy in Giles County is one of resilience, leadership, and unwavering dedication to his community.

Born into slavery, he gained his freedom and became a minister, educator, and landowner in Elkton, TN. In the late 1880s, he helped fund and build the first Black school in Elkton, personally housing and paying the teachers. When the K*K burned it down in 1926, he ensured that education continued—using the Baptist churches he served as makeshift classrooms.

His efforts didn’t stop there; he later raised funds to build a Rosenwald Black public school, which opened in 1930 and still stands today as Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church on Dixon Town Road.

His impact remains a vital part of Giles County’s history, a testament to perseverance and the power of community.
