Hey moms- check out these flight tips for flying with babies! Our very own Adventure Therapy Travel - Rachel Porter posted these tips on her page after recently flying with her babies. Check out her tips below! 👇🏼
We recently flew with the girls for the first time. Even though I work in travel, the thought of traveling with two infants was overwhelming. I spent many a nights laying awake thinking of all the things we needed and working through any and all scenarios (ones I mostly made up). Now that we have their first flights behind us, I'm so thankful that we did it! It's freeing to know it's possible and fairly easy to fly with the babies.
So if you're a parent worried about flying with your baby (or babies), hopefully these tidbits will help.
✈️For domestic flights, children under the age of 2 do not have to have a seat. However, they still need to be ticketed as a lap child. If you purchase a seat for a child under the age of 2, they have to have a car seat.
✈️ Only one lap child is allowed per row, so if you have multiple children in laps, you will have to sit in different rows. You also have to have 1 adult per lap child.
✈️ Flying with breastmilk or formula? You can carryon more than 3 ounces of each. Just be aware that it will have to go through an extra check, but the check is safe for both formula and breastmilk. However, check the airport's policy for specific details. Some airports cannot accept frozen breastmilk.
✈️ Car seats and strollers can be gate checked for free. Make sure to bring car seat and stroller bags for these items to help keep them safe during travel. Portable cribs need to be checked at the desk and will count as luggage.
✈️ Make life easier, get TSA Precheck! You do not want to worry about taking items out of your bags and taking off your shoes while going through security with your baby. Children 12 and under are included in their parent's TSA Precheck.
✈️ Protect those ears during takeoff and landing. We used noise canceling headphones for both takeoff and landing. We also gave the girls' their bottles during this time to help with pressure.
✈️ When in doubt, check with your airline on policies regarding flying with infants and children.
