It’s Hurricane Season! 💨

Preparedness is critical to ensuring the safety of you, your guests, and the security of your property.

Here is our guide to hurricane season as a host.

1. Know the report. Stay up to date on storm forecasts and developments.
2. Ensure you and your family’s safety. Nothing is more important than protecting the wellbeing of your loved ones.
3. Communicate with and equip guests. Ensure that they are informed and prepared, and determine the best course of action together.
4. Prepare your property. A bit of work ahead of time can go a long way in preventing damage.
5. Know your aid options. There are many aid populations available to you. The sooner you apply, the sooner you can get back to renting!

This one struck close to home. My daughter lives in Asheville, NC. Thankfully, after two days without power, cell, internet or water she was able last night to find enough fuel and an open hwy, escaping down hwy 26 to Spartanburg and points south. The CITGO, and Sheetz gas stations were running on generator power in Fletcher, NC where she was able to refuel. The station is planning to get resupplied so that may be a viable source. Parts of Interstate 40 east and west out are destroyed and shutdown UFN. Hwy 26 south to I - 95 is one of the few ways out of the area as many roads are washed away. NC DOT said consider all roads impassable.

Kudos to Publix Super Markets for providing electronics recharging stations, food, water and internet to their clients. Using these resources she was able to communicate with me enough to form a plan and a path of action.

In Asheville, the power will remain out until at least Friday for many areas with outlining areas having no estimate for regaining power. The graphic below shows the power outages as of Sunday night due to Helena. The darker areas are the most affected at 90-100%, with the lighter shades incrementally less affected.

An estimated 854,000 people are currently without power in the 28803 area code of western NC according to Duke Energy Corporation. Asheville has 216K residents without power, Greenville 455K and Charlotte 155K

It's a multi-generational event and a long-term disaster for this beautiful area.
