✅ Magnificent Views for Days

Clare Island Lighthouse, located at the entrance to Clew Bay in Co. Mayo off Ireland's western coast, has been a nautical landmark for nearly two centuries. Established in 1806, it was once a haven for sailors & has now been transformed into a luxurious, fully catered accommodation with stunning sea views. The lighthouse offers a peaceful retreat, embodying the tranquil pace of island life. Its interiors are sleek and comfortable, with spaces for both solitude and socializing. Guests enjoy wholesome local food, games, books, and a piano, with no televisions but Wi-Fi available for portable device streaming. Activities like walking, swimming, hiking, cycling, birdwatching, and relaxing by the turf fire are also available. There are 6 ensuite bedrooms available so this is perfect for a small group or family looking for a unique stay along Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way!

Today is a special day on the island of Ireland. It's the shortest day of the year and Winter Solstice, a highly important event in pre-historic Ireland marking the turning point of the year and the coming rebirth and renewal of the land.

Step back in time and experience the wonder of some of our ancient passage tombs, each connected to Ireland's rich history.

Posted • Want to know more about how Ireland is the Home of Halloween?

The story starts thousands of years ago. Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. Samhain marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter. The Celts believed that on this night, the boundary between the living and the dead became blurred, allowing spirits to roam the earth. To ward off these spirits, people lit bonfires and wore costumes. These are what those celebrations would have looked like.

When Christianity spread, the festival was incorporated into All Saints' Day on November 1st, with the evening before becoming All Hallows' Eve, eventually shortened to Halloween. Many modern Halloween traditions, such as dressing up, masking, and lighting jack-o'-lanterns, have roots in these ancient Samhain practices.

What’s your favourite Halloween tradition?

Meet Katie Daly

My name is Katie Daly and I am the founder and owner of Katie Daly’s Ireland.

Thank you for visiting my website and I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself……

I was born in the small but historic town of Kells in County Meath in the heart of Ireland’s Ancient East. This was of course before it was the known as Ireland’s Ancient East and it was simply just home to me.

I grew up in the countryside quite literally surrounded by fields so the green fields of Ireland are very much in my blood. I am one of 4 siblings & grew up surrounded by loving hardworking parents, a very large extended family, lots of animals and much love……
