The residence is used for national and ceremonial functions, receptions and meetings with foreign dignitaries. After a brief stop for photo-taking, you’ll be shown the West Bay area of Seven Mile Beach with its many residences built in a traditional style, large public beach and a variety of restaurants. Your next stop is the Cayman Turtle Center where you’ll have about half an hour stop. At this conservation farm you’ll learn how they care for and preserve the turtles. Some of the turtles grow up to 600 lbs but you’re welcome to take photos of those ones. Next, you’ll visit an area of jagged limestone formations, created when a particular alga attacks the limestone, covering the size of a football field and aptly named Hell. You can’t walk on this field but there’s a viewing platform where you can take photos and imagine fire and brimstone. You’ll then be taken to the Camana Bay observation tower where you can see the island and the Caribbean Sea in a 360-degree panorama. The observation tower is 75 ft tall and accessible by elevator. Don’t forget your camera to capture the beauty of this part of the world. The perfect way to end this excursion is at the Tortuga Rum Cake Outlet. At this internationally recognized organization you can sample and purchase some locally produced rum and rum cakes. Delicious! At the end of your day, you'll get you back to your Grand Cayman cruise port to catch the tender back to your ship.
