Cape Cod holds a unique position in the New England pantheon of interesting places. Birthed by a glacier, battered by winter storms, geologically transient, and ecologically sensitive, most of us live our lives never fully understanding the ecology of Cape Cod. Our goal is help foster awareness of the importance of being good stewards of the world around us through exposure to it's amazing flora and fauna!

Good Morning All!

I am currently in Micronesia on an amazing research vessel, The RV Thomas Thompson, and wanted to elet everyone know that as of Januray 1st 2025 CCLT will be closing.

There are a number of reasons for this. Mostly it's that running a small business is finacially draining.

I loved what we did and feel we had a meaningful impact on folks, especially the young naturalists.

Homemade Pizza!

The barnyard is a favorite part of the day! Johnny leads Grace, Aidan and Malcolm making a mud castle, Preston helping with animal care, August held captive by a knight! Play, imagination, cooperation. It's not a bad gig.

What did you do this week?

A video from a couple of weeks ago. A team went out to take tissue samples and perffrom a necropsy and found the following. 1) It's a Cuviers Beaked Whale. They are an extremely deep diving whale, the deepest known to man. 2) It was healthy. It's stomach was full of squid beaks and to my knowledge, no plastic. 3) It was young and healthy. Unknown as to cause of death. Where we live is amazing!

I have lived my whole life at the water’s edge. Exploring the beaches, salt marshes, tide pools and assorted environs of Cape Cod has been a lifelong experience. For many years I volunteered as a naturalist with local non-profits.

In 2016 I decided to start my own company to introduce visitors to the tremendous array of life that is all around them. We use real scientific equipment and allow people to interact in a very visceral way with the habitat they’ve been to but never really fully experienced. From lug worms to quahogs to lobsters to horseshoe crabs to pipefish and countless other animals our guest come away with a new and deep appreciation for just how important the water’s edge is.

Since our founding we have been involved with local hotels, had free Splish Splash Tidal Flat Programs, introduced classroom and field lessons to local schools and given various lectures, most recently on Great White Sharks.
