Day 6: OKC —> Amarillo, TX

From an iconic Route 66 steakhouse to spending the night in a covered wagon, this day was full of adventure, nostalgia, and true cowboy vibes! Although we didn’t attempt the 72oz steak challenge at The Big Texan Steak Ranch, we did enjoy some delicious eats, local brews, and one of the most unique overnight stays yet…a covered wagon!

Day 5: Little Rock, AR —> Oklahoma City, OK

A morning of work and then a 5 hour drive to OKC with a random stop off at a casino. Only took a few minutes for me to lose $23 in a slot machine so Oklahoma will forever have my money.

We drove directly to dinner, an awesome spot called Ma Der Lao Cuisine. Fun fact: Ma Der is a Laotian phrase that basically means “come eat! or “come thru!”

We thoroughly enjoyed our delicious dinner of crispy rice salad (nam khao), fried chicken (chuen g*i) and aromatic chicken salad (laab g*i).

Day 4: Memphis —> Little Rock

Started the day working from Big Cypress Lodge, enjoying the unique vibes of the Bass Pro Pyramid. Then, it was off to Graceland to tour the home of the King himself—because no trip to Memphis is complete without an Elvis moment! We walked through his famous mansion, admired his impressive car collection, and visited the Meditation Garden, where Elvis rests today.

I’ve always wanted to visit Graceland so finally stepping inside and experiencing this piece of music history was such an exciting moment!

After that, we hit the road for Little Rock, Arkansas, where we wrapped up the day with dinner & drinks at The Root Café—a cozy spot known for its locally sourced, feel-good food.

Arkansas also marks a milestone—it’s the first new state of the trip for me! Excited to finally check it off the list!

Day 3: McLemore → Memphis, TN 🎶

Crossed two states today—Alabama & Mississippi—and made a necessary Buc-ee’s stop so Tina could experience it for the first time. Totally worth it. 🦫✨

We arrived in Memphis just in time for a sunset at Tom Lee Park, soaking in the views along the Mississippi River. 🌅

For the night, we checked into Big Cypress Lodge, a hotel like no other—inside the iconic Bass Pro Shops Pyramid! This place has rustic yet luxurious treehouse-style rooms, some with balconies overlooking the indoor cypress swamp, complete with live alligators! 🐊 Plus, there’s a bowling alley, an observation deck with panoramic city views, and even a glass elevator ride to the top.

A completely unique stay to say the least!

Day 1

The trip kicked off with a full day on the road, covering four states and making a couple of stops along the way.

First stop: Harrisburg, PA for a quick brunch with friends.

Second stop: Shenandoah National Park to stretch our legs for a few and take in the views.

Final destination: Wytheville, VA, known as the “Crossroads of America” where I-77 and I-81 meet. Fun fact: It’s also the birthplace of Edith Bolling Wilson, First Lady and wife of President Woodrow Wilson.

A long day, but a great start to the trip!

Tomorrow, I’m hitting the road for a 9-day cross-country road trip with San Diego as the final destination!

When my dear friend told me she was heading there for a few months, my immediate response was “Road trip! Let’s make it an alliventure!”

So excited for our journey that will be part remote work, part road trip, part golf getaway, and 100% an adventure.
