Now that the eclipse madness is over, we know that you are looking for your next great obsession, but you don’t want to sit in hours of traffic in New Hampshire or Vermont. To that very valid and critical concern we say: Salem Maritime National Historic Site is proud to officially announce the heralded return of The Salem Maritime Festival’s Great Salem Maritime Cardboard Boat Regatta!!! Join us on August 3rd as we kick off the Maritime Festival when this ridiculous spectacle again launches at high tide from Derby Wharf. Together we will celebrate the triumphs, admire the determination, and question the structural integrity of homemade cardboard boats. Mark your calendars now and stay tuned for registration information coming soon. The Salem Maritime Festival saga continues.

Grab your kids and join Annie for an evening yoga practice!

This is a time and space for working parents to fit their practice in without the need for childcare or to be separated from their kids. As a working mom myself, I know that when I’m done working for the day, I don’t want to leave my baby for another hour to go to a class - so this is the remedy for that. Your children of any ages are welcome. They can join us for the class, nap on a mat or in their car seat besdie you, or hang out in the in-studio lounge and watch their favorite show with some headphones. We will create a stress and judgment free space for parents and families to prioritize their health without sacrificing time spent together. Let’s build some community, show our kids that excising is fun, and get a good sweat in.

Please note, the class is taught to the parents, though older kids are welcome to join. (Only the parent has to sign up.) This is not specifically a “baby and me” yoga class.

Very good news for downtown Salem! We can't wait to take a look. 🥰

Very good news for downtown Salem! We can't wait to take a look. 🥰

Something new is hopping into downtown Salem!

Denise Kent and Mike Gibson, longtime owners of Wicked Good Books on the Pedestrian Mall in downtown Salem, will be launching a new toy store, Silly Bunny, this spring at 260 Essex Street, across the street from the Salem Chamber of Commerce. Silly Bunny will offer toys from many distinct brands not often found in big box stores, together with some big brands most people will recognize.

The store is a culmination of a dream for Denise, who loves and collects toys and miniatures, and reads many children’s books for the sheer delight of their messages and illustrations. The couple, who are Salem residents, also recognized a need for mainstream family-oriented retail downtown, where all ages could enjoy a leisurely stroll and browse in a shop designed to pique the imagination.

The new store will carry toys, kids’ books, puppets, games, and puzzles. The space is currently under renovation and will be ready this spring. Eventually, Silly Bunny will connect to the community with programming to be announced after they’ve settled in.

Meanwhile, Wicked Good Books, which was established in 2014, remains and continues to support and sponsor local festivals, schools, and organizations. These include the Salem Lit Fest, Salem Film Fest, Salem Main Streets, and the Salem Book Buddies program, among others.

Silly Bunny is located at 260 Essex Street in downtown Salem, MA. Social media accounts are coming soon, and online shopping will be available at sillybunnysalem.com.
