Did you know Royal Carribean is super autism friendly?

My son is 5 and he has autism. He struggles with long waits, communicating his needs, making friends, and with overstimulation (loud noises, bright lights, big crowds, etc.)

So you can imagine that I was nervous to take him on his first cruise. There were no issues while on our vacation! Royal Carribean offers lots of accommodations specific to autism such as :

-Priority boarding and disembarkation
-Autism friendly films
-Autism friendly toy lending program
-The televisions in the staterooms have provide a variety of entertainment options including complimentary, on-demand access to The Autism Channel.
-Adventure Ocean Toilet Trained Bathroom Exception
-Wide variety of special dietary accommodations including gluten-free options. In the main dining room, they have highlighted which items are gluten-free. There are also a variety of gluten-free items in Windjammer, and gluten-free pizza in Sorrento’s.
-and more!

Let’s take a moment to appreciate FOOD!

If you grew up in a household like mine, you know food is an important facet of a vacation. When you go on a Royal Carribean cruise, you are going to eat like a king/queen. All of this food was INCLUDED in the cost of the cruise. Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner/Desserts.

Also, you can choose a buffet style dinner, or go with a fine dining experience in the main dining room with bread, an appetizer, main entree, and dessert (or you can have multiple desserts/dishes!).

So for any picky eaters.. buffet style is perfect. My kids enjoyed the pizza, cereals, chicken tenders, Mac and cheese and various desserts while my boyfriend and I enjoyed the fine dining with salmon, prime rib, ribeye, seafood pasta, and escargot.

And if you just don’t feel like getting out of bed.. you can order room service to deliver you the same great quality food to your room and it’s a flat rate of $7.95. So you can have a whole feast or just a piece of cake, only $7.95. For those who have ordered room service in a hotel, you know that’s cheap!!!

Guess what?! I’m BACK!

I just got home and settled back in after a cruise to the Bahamas and Royal Carribean’s own private island CocoCay! I had a fantastic time! I ate the best food and desserts, watched an amazing comedian featured on NBC’s last comic standing, saw a live performance of Grease, watched movies from the hot tub, played mini golf, rode several water slides, watched an ice skating show, played table tennis, heard some fantastic live music, watched my kids enjoy the fun Adventure Ocean program while I got some adult time in, and best of all..

Did I mention ALL of this was included in the cost of my cruise?!

And for a family of 4.. that was under $3000 total (food, hotel before the cruise, gas, excursions, souvenirs and all included)

My honest review of Tru by Hilton hotel Asheville East

Tru by Hilton is a Hilton branded hotel that was created in 2016 in the Western US. Due to its popularity it has been rapidly expanding east now. They are an economical hotel, and in my opinion fantastic for families and short stays. They feature a fun atmosphere, complete with a pool table, card/board games, outdoor fire pit and chess table and unique seating in their lobby. Also, they are pet friendly! They have a gym with a peloton bike, some have pools (Asheville does!) and a cute market to purchase any snacks or necessities you forgot at home. The rooms are small, with limited storage but the furniture in the room is on wheels so you can move it as you see fit.

When we entered the room, it was clean and tidy and had our name on the the TV. A nice touch. I found the bed to be a bit firm for my liking and I did hear hallway noise as other guests walked by. When I asked the front desk for extra pillows the night time employee told me they had no extra pillows. I asked a different employee in the morning and they happily had housekeeping bring me more. I also was unable to use my Hilton honors digital key, which was inconvenient. The employee explained that “sometimes it just doesn’t work”.
The breakfast was good in concept but in reality left something to be desired. They offered bagels and toast, muffins, oatmeal, a Turkey sausage, scrambled eggs, cereals, yogurt, a pancake making machine (super cool!) and various toppings for the pancakes. Bananas and oranges, and orange juice/milk/apple juice. While the options were plentiful I found myself gravitating towards the pancake machine the most because the other hot options were watery and lacked flavor. Overall, sufficient for a day or two stay. If you like pancakes, you’ll love it.

Overall, I would stay again at Tru by Hilton. My stay was comfortable, clean, and I had no detrimental issues during my stay. I feel perhaps some of the things I ran into during my stay would have been different at a different Tru location.

Who I would recommend Tru by Hilton for…

-Short 1-2 night stays
-Those with kids
-People traveling with dogs/cats
-Those who won’t spend much time in the hotel room

Who I would not recommend Tru by Hilton for…

-Vacationers staying longer than 2 nights
-Those who seek luxury stays
-Those who want “plush” beds
-Anyone who wants a suite
-Someone who needs a microwave or coffee machine in their room

I’d rate them 7/10
