I was excited to learn @bammysdc is open again under new, but still Black ownership! And the menu is crafted by Chef Peter Prime. I was so excited to finally try it. One thing that stands out is the portion sizes!!! I’m so glad the food is plentiful and worth every penny. The oysters were magnificent. I don’t even like oysters, but these are so flavorful.
The salt fish Accra was a good surprise, they are savory donut holes made with cod. I loved it! This was also my first time trying Doubles and this is definitely a great first one. I loved everything!
Dishes we ordered:
Salt fish Accra
Chargrilled jerk wings
Doubles
Grilled porkbelly served on bammy
Big mothershucking oysters
Oxtail entree served with collard greens and rice and peas

The menu is so unique with cool dishes like their literal popcorn chicken served in a popcorn maker, their chicken cheesesteak beignets, and they also have classics like Mac and cheese, fried chicken, chicken sandwiches (which are loaded with fried pickles on a black milk bun), and banana pudding 👍🏾

The restaurant is BYOB and a great new addition to the neighborhood 🙌🏾

A LUXURY BLACK OWNED FLOATING HOME 😍😍

All aboard the FLOTOMAC 🛥️🛌this Black & veteran-owned houseboat is the perfect (floating) home away from home @flohom_ofc // #TTDIDC
Stationed at the National Harbor marina, this unique 1 bed, 2 bath suite is just a dock and a ferris wheel away from all the harbor has to offer. It’s a not so small space once you get inside - you could sleep a party of 4 comfortably and there’s plenty of room on the upper deck for hanging out. And, as a tall girl, I noticed that the ceiling is a good height
This FLOHOM is adults only, which means it’s perfect for a couples or gals/pals getaway 🥂they have packages available to kick your stay up a notch with add-ons like a private chef, masseuse, and yoga or meditation instructors. Your stay also includes a complimentary parking pass for the Mariner Parking Lot.
Check out their website to learn more about booking your stay & their other locations 💌

There’s something special about being black. It’s the way we bond, I say this due to the connection of our ancestors. Two years ago, I went to Cartagena, Colombia to study the black culture. I was only there for a month and barely scratched the surface.
———
I wanted to share this clip again because for me, it shows one of the special bonds that black people of the Diaspora share across the globe...our hair.
——
I visited Playa Blanca beach, located on Isla Barú in 2018 and noticed all of the young black boys running around playing in the sand with fresh haircuts. I stopped a kid and ask him who was his barber and how could I get my haircut. 5 mins later his barber approaches me with just a comb and razor. I looked at him and said “no me jodas” there’s no way you can cut/fade my hair with just a razor. He looked at me and said trust me....you’re one of us this is your home too. I sat back and let him cut my hair, and I gave my phone to a kid to record the process. Looking back, this video just speaks with so much power to me.... this was my first time ever in this country and I went to an island off the coast of Colombia and was welcomed with open arms like FAMILY.
———
That’s the beauty in our people, black people, the connection is unmatched no matter where you go...state, or country. We are truly a remarkable, loving, extraordinary, talented, multifaceted people. S/o to my Afro Colombians. 🇨🇴✊🏿
WHEN YOU’RE GOING TO MIAMA MAKE SURE YOU GO VISIT @copperdoorbnb AND SAY HELLO TO @chef_west and @wherethefoodis !
