Thinking of heading south and tropical 🌴 for the winter?
The Dominican Republic is a great option and continues to lead responsible reopening in Latin America. Read 👇 to see WHY your dream destination should include DR at the top of the list.
"It’s during times of difficulty that true leadership emerges, and Dominican Republic has shown itself as a country that does not shy away from challenges. Even as destinations begin to reopen, DR continues to lead by example with their responsible recovery strategy. In fact, they are “among the first five countries in the region for the advanced rate of vaccination, which allows it to continue with a policy open to tourism,” said DR’s Minister of Tourism David Collado.
They sprang into optimistic action in September 2020 in anticipation of a careful, measured reopening. What they laid the foundation for has become a world reference recognized by specialized international agencies including UNWTO, WTTC, and FITUR 2021. Because of their proactivity and confidence in their policies, the Dominican government finds themselves ready to fight back even against the potential of a new worldwide strain as they continue to enforce safety measures, create awareness, and watch their nation’s infection rates closely.
"The fact that the World Tourism Organization's Secretary-General chose Dominican Republic as the destination for his first family vacation is a sign of confidence, a sign that our rigorous work and respect for security protocols create trust among the international community," said David Collado, Dominican Republic's Minister of Tourism. "With its sanitary protocol, equipment, security, and infrastructure, the country is prepared to receive tourists."
The protocols they put into place that still apply include:
💉100% vaccination rates of tourism service personnel, mandated by the Dominican Republic government
💨Random breath tests at all international airports, which have continuously yielded impressive near-zero positivity rates
❌Elimination of required PCR tests to enter the country
🦠Complimentary antigen tests are free to qualifying travelers at select hotels
With tourism representing one of the main engines of the Dominican economy, it should come as no surprise that the country is fierce about protecting their visitors and the travel industry that gets them there. Within this island’s borders are multiple properties across 70 hotel chain brands, with guests that hail from 500 cities worldwide. Unified under the country’s safety measures, no matter where they come from, how they get there, and where they choose to stay, adherence to health and hygiene standards are what they all will have in common.
Since September 15, 2020, Dominican Republic has implemented the Responsible Tourism Recovery Plan, which includes providing a free healthcare plan for tourists that covers all types of emergencies (including a possible coronavirus contagion) and conducting random tests on incoming passengers at the airport. Dominican Republic tourism industry's security protocols have been endorsed and certified by the international organization Bureau Veritas and the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). Furthermore, the Ministry of Tourism launched the Traveler Information Center, an interactive platform that answers the most frequently asked questions by those who plan to visit the country (https://www.drtravelcenter.com/es).
Because of these powerful actions, Dominican Republic has seen a steady uptick in arrivals since December 2020. The notable rise this past May only serves to confirm the confidence of tourists in the measures adopted by the country as they pave the road to travel recovery in Latin America."
