Akhenaten, also known as Amenhotep IV, is one of the most controversial pharaohs of ancient Egypt. He is remembered for his radical religious reforms, particularly his attempt to transition Egypt from polytheism to the worship of a single god, the Aten. Akhenaten went to great lengths to promote the Aten as the supreme deity, even moving the capital to a new city called Akhetaten (modern-day Amarna). His actions provoked significant opposition from the priesthood and traditionalists who resisted his attempts to upend centuries-old religious beliefs. Despite his efforts, Akhenaten's religious revolution ultimately proved short-lived, as his successors quickly restored the old gods and erased much of his legacy.
