Happy Presidents’ Day!

Presidents’ Day was originally established in 1885 to celebrate President George Washington. It later became popularly known as Presidents’ Day after it was moved due to the 1971’s Uniform Monday Holiday Act.

The Uniform Monday Holiday Act was an attempt to create more three-day weekends for the nation’s workers. Thanks congress!

Now Presidents’ Day is a popular way for the United States to celebrate all our past presidents and our current president.

Enjoy your holiday!

As we celebrate Black History Month this year, it’s important to note the origins of how the celebration began.

In 1915, the ASNLH was founded with the purpose of researching and promoting African American’s achievements. The group sponsored a national African American History week in 1926, placing it on the second week of February to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.

Since 1976, every United States president has designated the whole month of February as Black History Month and endorsed a specific theme.

This years theme:

“Black Family: Representation, Identity, and Diversity”

Orville and Wilbur Wright were two young American pioneers that shaped the way we travel today. They are credited with inventing the first fully practical airplane on the shores of Kitty Hawk, NC.

Did you know:

They decided who would fly first with a coin toss, Orville won.

Neither brother ever received a high school diploma.

Neil Armstrong carried a piece of the Wright Flyer with him to the moon.
