I found this post on my Homebirth Ceserean group wall. I feel this SO deeply As a homebirth ceserean mama x 2 and postpartum doula having supported many many mothers who had unplanned ceserean births!
Hold all those mamas, literally hold their hand or hug if invited, emotionally hold space, mentally hold space-listen to the birth stories, the storm of raw emotions that may need processing, while they hold their own babies or a family member or friend is holding the baby for them. If mom needs to shower, take a walk, eat a meal, rest and asks for a break then it may be a good time to hold that sweet baby then but only then!

Hold the mother, not the baby.⁣

Because the baby’s being taken care of—⁣
fed, snuggled, and given all the love in the world—⁣
by not only the mother,⁣
but her partner, grandparents, siblings, cousins, and friends.⁣

But the mother,⁣
may have gaps in her mind from lack of sleep,⁣
may be mechanical in her motions as she’s healing,⁣
may feel more like a mess than a mother,⁣
may be sitting in bed, crying, feeling overwhelmed in her body and life,⁣
may be full of mom guilt because in her mind, "she's not good enough,"⁣
and she’s bleeding, wincing in pain, swollen and emotional.⁣

And the mother’s that baby's whole world and needs to be seen, so she doesn't disappear into that postpartum fog.⁣

So, hold the mother, not the baby.⁣

A mother agrees that her baby matters more.⁣
But she’s hurting, while she’s the person behind the baby,⁣
in the background, making it all happen:⁣
feeding her baby at all hours,⁣
snuggling her baby close to comfort newborn cries,⁣
and being that baby’s everything.⁣

So, it’s the mother who needs your love.⁣

And a mother will remember who held her up.⁣

So instead of “I’m coming to see the baby,”⁣
try saying, “I’m coming to see you 𝘢𝘯𝘥 meet the baby, too.”⁣

Because the mother needs to be held more.⁣

Fun Fact Friday:
Let’s talk Relaxin Hormone!…
Relaxin is an essential hormone produced by the ovaries and the placenta. The main function of this hormone is right in the name: Relax-in. It allows the ligaments and tissues to soften, muscles to relax to make room for the growing fetus and to widen the pelvis to help prepare for childbirth.
This is an incredibly important task…
However, this is not the only function relaxin has in a pregnant body.

Relaxin helps the fetus implant in the uterus, influences growth of the placenta, Increases elasticity of and relaxes the abdominal and pelvic floor muscles, relaxin relaxes arteries to accommodate a whopping 30-50% increase in blood volume, relaxes intrauterine ligaments to allow the uterus to expand and accommodate both the placenta and growing fetus, Increases elasticity of and relaxes the abdominal and pelvic floor muscles. Wow! Isn’t this incredible!?

I’m addition to all these amazing and vital functions
Relaxin can make the pregnant and postpartum body hyper flexible and dramatically impact range of motion. This can potentially make one more susceptible to injury, if precautions are not taken. During and proceeding the childbearing year it is advisable to move with purpose and grace-more than ever. Gentle, low impact excercise and movement are recommended to protect the joints and soft tissues from strain and injury. Yoga, Pilates, water aerobics, swimming, walking are all good ways to move the body. Even with lower impact exercise it is still important to always listen to your body and never push yourself too hard! Finding classes or groups geared toward pregnancy and postpartum are key to finding an experienced instructor to support you through this season of life.

Experts are not exactly sure how long relaxin is present in the body postpartum…but we do know
it can linger for up to one whole year in the new mama’s system for those who have been lactating, once baby has weaned!

We also know that carrying a baby inutero and holding and breastfeeding your infant in all those crazy positions can cause back, neck and shoulder pain, even wrist pain! So get massage, chiropractic, acupuncture to help ease pain if possible.

Be well you all!

Fun Fact Friday-
A fetus can see light inutero starting about 16 weeks of pregnancy, even though the eyes are not fully formed until about 20 weeks! Then eyes open at about 26-28 weeks! Amazing!

Have you considered encapsulating your placenta but felt put off by safety concerns or price? I'm currently certifying through IPPA (International Placenta and Postpartum Association) https://www.ippa.com/training. I need to work with two more mamas to finish my practicum. I'm offering a huge discount and a very special deal for the complete placenta remedy package. It includes print keepsake, cord keepsake, capsules, balm and tincture! Normally $250 for capsules a la cart. Now just 150 for two lucky mama's to be!

I'm ready to answer all your questions regarding safety and benefits. I have completed rigorous training courses (IPPA, bloodbourne & pathogen, food handlers and many years of midwifery education and postpartum doula work) I offer the steamed method exclusively, which ensures any pathogens present would be destroyed . I encapsulate in your kitchen, which is the recommendation given by OSHA and thoroughly disinfect all work surfaces before and after. I adhere to strict guidelines in order to offer you and your baby the safest and most optimal postpartum experience.

Please contact me for more details-IM or [email protected]

Blessed be!
