Summer is here! This means more of you are getting ready to embark on your summer vacations, but are you savvy when it comes to packing?

I love packing for summer travel because since the clothes is lighter I have more space to pack more cute items. However, I've developed 3 tips I'd like to share to maximize the space and avoid overpacking.

Check them out:

1. Wear your bulkiest clothes on the flight - I am the person who's always FREEZING on a plane. So I have to pack a sweater, hoodie, or jacket for the flight (even if it's 100 degrees at my destination). So I save the bulkiest clothes I'll pack for my flight(s). It saves a lot of space in my luggage to pack the lighter clothes.

2. Pack neutral colors - I love having different outfits throughout the trip. I used to pack very bright colors in tops & bottoms but then I couldn't really coordinate them together and would end up repeating looks throughout longer trips. Now I pack solid, neutral colors that I can mix & match so that I can create different looks for different occasions. If I pack something with patterns and/or bright colors I save it for a special event during my trip.

3. Skip the big purses/shoes - I am a lover of platform shoes/heels. But I realized they're not really practical during travel. For one: they take up a lot of space and they aren't not comfortable for walking long distances, which I tend to do when exploring. Now I pack 1 unique pair of shoes but 2 more pairs that are mostly comfortable. I also stopped packing purses that are bulky. I have found some great alternatives online that can easily be folded or pack flat that also fit all of my essentials during the day (charger, cable, wallet, lip gloss). The less I carry on me, the more comfortable I am.

One of the most commonly asked questions by my clients when we start to plan: are we doing this with enough time?

While every situation is different I have found that sticking to certain time frames helps secure the best pricing and availability.

Here are my suggestions:

* International trip: whether it's your annual vacation or a honeymoon I always suggest starting the planning 6-9 months. 9 months when most airlines release their international route information.

* Domestic (USA) Trip: You can generally plan a domestic trip quickly as prices aren't subject to visas, passport requirements, and exchange rates. I suggest 3-6 months before.

* Destination Wedding: Both abroad and domestic I suggest 12-18 months before. Not only does this ensure hotel availability for room blocks and meeting spaces (they fill up very far in advance) but it also gives your guests time to budget and set up payment plans!

* Elopement: These require less time as it's usually the two people getting married so no big meeting space or hotel rooms are needed. I do suggest 6-12 months for planning to ensure you find availability for things like the venue, photographers and officiants.

* Retreats (company or holistic): 12-18 months before. The same rule applies with hotel availability, and now we need to find companies that can direct any activities you'd like to do for your attendees. This also gives you time to promote the event to any potential guests.

While it is possible to plan with less time than these guidelines, planning with time gives you more peace of mind and flexibility if anything should change. Reach out if you have any questions about the process of planning travel.

Have you ever seen other people's elegant photo shoots abroad? Have you ever considered being the subject of one of these photo shoots?

I had honestly never thought of participating in one since I feel so awkward in front of a camera. Over the course of 2 years I've booked multiple sessions for my clients in incredible locations like France, Portugal, Greece, Colombia, and even Morocco.

It gave me the opportunity to work with local photographers, see the cities through a local lens, and realize how memorable it could make a trip. I decided I would treat myself to this shoot to commemorate my 2024 birthday trip.

I was NOT disappointed. I worked with an extraordinary photographer named Kim in Edinburgh. She really made me break out of my shell with ice breaker games, made me forget it was cold and rainy, and honestly captured my personality perfectly. When I see these images I feel empowered, beautiful, and happy.

Next time you go on a vacation you may want to consider hiring a local to capture images that will stay with you forever.

Today I leave for 2 weeks to Scotland & Ireland on a solo trip.

While traveling solo may not be for everyone I find it refreshing and resetting. I get to wake up early and exhaust myself with all the activities I want to do. I get to meet fellow travelers as I'm more open to talking to others. I also get to meditate a lot of focus on my blessings of being able to continue exploring this beautiful world.

Let's be honest, as much as we'd like all of our vacations to be 5 star most of us have to budget when planning our next getaway.

Besides setting the initial budget for booking there are small things you can do during your trip to save as much money as possible.

Keep reading as I give you my top 5:

1. Book early - while this may sound obvious it's actually very beneficial to book hotels and activities months in advance. As you near your travel date there's obviously going to be much lower availability which limits your options for booking and drives the prices up on remaining supply.

2. Set a cash budget - Cash is not nearly as important as it used to be as the world shifts towards electronic payments BUT I always budget to have at least $200 in the local currency on my person for emergencies. I also don't exchange money at the airport: I withdraw from local ATMS upon arrival (preferably not the airport) as the fees are much more favorable.

3. Avoid early impulse purchases: I'm SO guilty of wanting to buy all the souvenirs when I arrive. Usually by the end of my trip I've seen my "unique" gifts all over shops and at much better prices. Wait until the end of your trip: if you're still in love with it, buy it!

4. Consider free walking tours: I love walking tours when I get to a new city, especially a large one. It's a great way to get to know the main interest points that I may want to revisit afterwards. You usually pay the tour guide a tip based on their performance.

5. Venture off-the-beaten path: do I have to tell you? AVOID TOURIST TRAPS. They are usually expensive and not as fun as other unique activities you can find elsewhere. Sometimes, they're the exact same activity just at a different location. Use an expert to give you tips on lesser-known alternatives.

Have you ever traveled and experienced extreme fatigue, headaches and even trouble concentrating? You're probably experienced jet lag!

Jet lag happens when you alter your natural circadian rhythm because of travel to a new time zone. Your circadian rhythm is your internal clock that your body uses to manage sleep and wake times.

Traveling disrupts the measures your body uses to manage its internal clock, such as daylight, your temperature, and your hormones.

Here are a few tips to fight jet lag for the next time you travel across multiple time zones.

1. Adapt quickly to your new time zone: I find this is probably the most useful tip when fighting jet lag.
2. Drink water
3. Try light
4. Manage sleep time: sleep on your flight!
5. Try melatonin
6. Caffeinated beverages

Yesterday I received an article that stated that this South American destination just broke its all time Tourism Record.

Considering the competition in South America this is not an easy feat, but Colombia has now reported an average of 5.8 million visitors a year.

This has surpassed its previous record set in 2022 by 24%.

Why is Colombia surging so much in popularity?

Read below for some reasons it's on many traveler's radars:
* The warmth of its people: despite the record number of travelers the locals still maintain their pleasant demeanors and authenticity.
* Reasonable prices for tourists: you can still get great experiences at decent prices, the dollar and euro go a long way in Colombia.
* Diverse landscapes and rich cultures: Colombia is a biodiversity haven with the Amazon rainforest, deserts, beaches, the Andes mountain range, and even snow at Sierra Nevada. Along with the diversity in climate Colombia boasts diverse cultures where you can explore its Indigenous, African, and Spanish history blended into its art, cuisine, and music.

A question I get asked in every consultation is: how can you help me?

I understand completely. In the age of internet we have become used to doing everything ourselves. We buy our clothes, our food, and even our travel easily from doing a Google search.

But sometimes this task becomes overwhelming when you come across the THOUSANDS of blogs, choices, and reviews. How can you connect the dots between all of your destinations? Do I need a visa for this country?

I think I always tell my clients: how much is your time worth to you? Sometimes you have so many things going on you can't possibly add in another 4-5 hours a day to look everything up.

Here are 4 important things a travel advisor can help you with:

1. Destination Knowledge: When is the best time to visit? Is it worth going to? Are there alternate destinations that provide the same experience at a better price? We constantly work with different destinations and learn the specifics to get you answers more quickly.

2. Save you valuable time: A trip generally takes 10-12 hours to plan. And that's if you do it all in one sitting. Sometimes when you go to book the original things you found are no longer available. You can save that time by having a consultation with a pro, getting your finished itinerary and making small changes (if needed).

3. Support if you need it: I'd rather call one person I can trust to take care of my needs abroad than be on hold for hours waiting for the "next available customer service representative". Advisors are just a quick phone call away should you need it.

4. Build complex itineraries: Sometimes itineraries can get really difficult if you don't speak the language of your destination or the transportation infrastructure is not what you expected it to be. Advisors figure everything out down to dinner suggestions based on previous client feedback.

I've been asked a lot lately about my favorite destinations. It's hard to rank places because each one is unique and offers something special. I think a trip stays in your memory because of what you were feeling at the time, who you were with, and the conditions of the location. BUT I obviously have places that I would love to visit again.

Here are my Top 5!

5. Portugal - I've been several times but my last trip was special because it was a gift I gave to my dad for his birthday. He had never been to Europe and we spent 2 weeks exploring from North to South. It was awesome to share this with him. The food and extraordinary views helped too.

4. Japan - I think I did not give Japan the time it needed. I was there for 8 days but I was there with a group of my BEST friends. So... it has stayed in my head as one of my favorite trips ever. We explored Tokyo and Kyoto and I DEFINITELY need to go back to see more and stay longer.

3. Thailand - I absolutely love the people in Thailand. I think they made this experience top notch. It's not called the "Land of Smiles" in vain. The food was exquisite, the views were special, and I am a sucker for temples and absolutely loved every temple we visited. What set the bar even higher was my experience with elephants, these creatures are truly awe inspiring.

2. New Zealand - When I was first proposed the idea of New Zealand I wasn't very excited. But there's something about the pristine nature of this place that swept me away. I just can't describe the peace I felt in the entire country. From delicious, organic wine to doing the steepest zipline in the world, New Zealand has my heart.

1. Croatia - Like I said, where you are in life really dictates how you experience a trip. I went to New Zealand for my 30th birthday. It was my first solo trip, and I actually ended up making friends I still talk to almost 6 years later. I explored national parks, visited fortresses, had some of the most amazing food and wine I've ever tasted. For that reason, it's my #1.

Today I want to talk about one of my new favorite segments of travel planning. I'm getting more and more requests for elopements in beautiful international destinations.

What exactly are elopements?

Interestingly enough, according to Merriam-Webster dictionary, the defition is slowly changing! Check out the definition straight from their website:

What to Know -
Elope's meaning is shifting towards "a small destination wedding" whereas it used to mean "to run away and secretly get married".

Couples have long dreamt of romantic weddings in picturesque locations but are realizing the high costs involved for them and their families and guests. As a result, they are choosing to symbolically tie the knot on their own preserving the special moment for themselves and perhaps 2-6 guests.

They may later have a bigger ceremony at home or dedicate the rest of their budget to their honeymoon.

Summer Travel: Packing Tips

We are in the middle of the year’s busiest travel season: summer. I’m sure many of you are busy packing for your next trip. I have two tips today that could potentially save you money or help you out in an emergency. Everyone knows I’m “team carry-on” but I understand some travelers really prefer to check their luggage. Tip #1 goes for those travelers. 1. If you absolutely have to check your bag make sure you take a carry on luggage or backpack with at least 3 days of extra clothing and underwear for more days. I also suggest taking a ziplock with your necessary liquids (toothpaste, shampoo, contact solution, etc.) in case the airline delays or loses your luggage. That way you have a backup while you figure out your next steps. 2. Take a rolled up or flat duffel bag or backpack in your carry-on. This takes up no space in your luggage at the beginning of your trip. As you buy souvenirs or clothing you can start using that extra bag to store it. At the end of your trip try to take it as an extra carry on or if the airline makes you check it at least you’ve only paid for checked luggage for ONE of your flights. These two tips have really come in handy during some of my longer trips but they can apply for anyone wanting to make travel a little less stressful! Did you know? Within the travel industry there are sections of travel based on your preferences? I'm here to break them down to help you figure out which type of trip you'd like to take! 1. Packaged Tours - Think Globus, G Adventues, EF Ultimate Break. These companies have pre-made tours with set itineraries, dates, activities and hotels. You get an escort for your entire trip. *Pros: tend to be lower in price (not always) and you see a lot in a short amount of time as transportation is arranged for the entire trip. *Cons: you have lower independence or free time to explore on your own. 2. Customized Travel - I call it "A la Carte" travel. Pick and choose your destinations, activities, and hotels like you customize your Starbucks latte. *Pros: get to see as much as you'd like as you dictate your time in destination, less hurried travel. *Cons: it's more expensive as you work with many different suppliers. 3. It feels like a dream... and it looks like one too! I'm working with a client on her wedding in Scotland and we just booked the most beautiful venue in an authentic Scottish castle just outside of Edinburgh. It's called Borthwick Castle and they not only provide the venue but decorations to match the location, as well as catering, and even a cool ghost piano in their lovely stateroom. If there's a constant in travel it's change. The United Kingdom is joining the European Union in requiring all travelers that visit to fill out an electronic travel authorization (ETA). This will be required of ALL travelers, even those that don't require visas to enter, i.e. Americans. This system is not in place yet and has been delayed until at least the end of 2023 but it's important to stay informed to avoid being denied entry into the country. Over the last few years, Positano has become extremely popular as "the place" to visit in the Amalfi Coast. This has unfortunately caused hotel prices to skyrocket. But don't fret! The Amalfi Coast is a huge area that can give you amazing views in many of its towns.
