Our guests wanted an adventure where they’d be immersed in nature and solitude so we headed out to the backcountry. The trails we trekked had magnificent views and were located in a landscape of vast history.

It was adventure time yesterday with the Boisseau family. They traveled all the way from a small town in France called Laval.

There was “coyote willow” along the trail so we had a little arts and craft moment. Turned the willow into a “split-twig figurine”.

Another fun one in the Utah sun! 🌤️

We got to splash around and float with a lively group from the Bears Ears Coalition. 🐻

It’s always an honor to adventure with guests who are descendants of the various clans that have ancestral ties to this river. 🌀

The guests had a chance to see the wonders that are abundant along the river all while getting soaked and keeping cool. 🏜️ 💧

Come on out for a chillventure on the San Juan River! 😎

Bears Ears Summer Camp 2024!

Round 1 of 2

This year’s summer camp (round 1), was held along the awesome stretch of water between Sand Island and Mexican Hat This stretch is also known as the “Upper Canyon”. The “Upper Canyon” has epic scenic views, unique wildlife and excellent hiking.

We had a great group of adventurers on this trip! Youth from New Mexico, Arizona and Utah came out to see the beauty of the region and learn about its history.

Huge thanks to the Bears Ears Partnership and their compassionate staff for holding this summer camp for the youth.

It’s truly amazing to see the youth connect with nature and their ancestral roots.

Geology rocks!

We had an awesome group come out with us for a 4-day Geological and Cultural expedition on the mighty San Juan River.

Geologists from various universities joined with tribal knowledge holders to share their wisdom about the Earth’s geologic processes.

We had guests from the Zuni, Hopi and Supai tribe join us, which made this trip super special.

There was so much good conversations and ideas of how to mesh Indigenous knowledge with scientific interpretation.

Special thanks to:
🤙🏽 Arnold Clifford: Dine Geologist and botanist

🌀 Dr. Karl Karlstrom and Dr. Laurie Crossey:

✊🏾 Dr. Karletta Chief: Dine Geologist

🪶 Chili Yazzie: Navajo Nation tribal leader

🌎 Dr. Steve Semken: Geology professor

We recently led a trip for an awesome group of adventurers from Osprey Packs on the scenic San Juan River. This was a special day showing them the beauty of southeast Utah, particularly the Navajo Nation.

Our guides and crew welcomed Osprey to their homelands. We had a good time sharing stories and soaking up the goodness of nature.

Osprey has a long-time connection to this region and the tribal population. We dig that bigtime!

Since the beginnings of Ancient Wayves, we’ve always utilized Osprey gear during our backpack trips. We’re super excited to utilize Osprey gear on the river!

We’ll be out there with Osprey made waterproof backpacks and drybags. Not only does their gear look stylish but they are very durable. They’re proven rez-tough!

Thanks Osprey for your support for the Indigenous communities!

World Monuments Fund has done extensive work in this area of Southeast Utah, particularly within the Bears Ears region.

🐻 Bears Ears National Monument 🌀

The Bears Ears landscape is a special place filled with beauty and ancestral history. The area radiates delicateness and sacredness. Ecosystems, ancestral structures and native wildlife within the monument are in dire need of protection from disruption.

😎 The San Juan River is thee place where the youth can connect with nature and see the wonders that this ancestral landscape holds. Along the river, adventurers get to learn about the history and delicateness of the region.

Youth floated the waters that edge the southern boundary of the Bears Ears National Monument with our guides who call the home.

🌀We’re looking forward to this year’s adventures with the youth. It’s going to be an epic summertime outing with the youth!

Much respect and sincere gratitude to the Bears Ears Partnership for providing this opportunity for the youth. This organization is doing awesome work in helping preserve the unique lands within and near the monument. This Navajo-owned company is run out of Farmington,NM by Kelly Badonie. He and his wife produce quality gear like t-shirts, hats and pullovers. They can toss ink on practically anything!

We truly appreciate their awesome work and them producing excellent gear for us since day one.

This is the event to attend if you’re interested in outdoor recreation within Dine Bikeyah..

There will be presentations about trail projects and other trail-related topics.

Ancient Wayves River and Hiking Adventures will be there to encourage outdoor recreationists to always practice “Leaving no trace” while out on the landscape.

Owner and Guide (Louis Williams), will share the importance of taking care of the fragile landscape and how we can limit disturbances to the areas we recreate.

Thanks to all the organizations who are contributing their efforts in spreading the goodness of outdoor recreation within Dine bi Keyah!
