Congrats to the Plowboys Boys who got a retail deal that took their KC residency global. Gettin it done!
“We are very proud of what Plowboys accomplished: three metro restaurant locations spanning both sides of the state line, the only BBQ restaurant in the downtown loop, a franchise restaurant in Lincoln, Neb., plus five years as the exclusive barbeque of the Chiefs at Arrowhead,” says Founder/President/Chief Pitmaster Todd Johns.
“As we close our restaurants, the first word I think of is how grateful I am,” Johns says. “Grateful to have been a part of the long, rich barbeque tradition in Kansas City. Grateful for our fans, who loved our brand and our food. Grateful for the many vendor partners we worked with over the years. and, most importantly, grateful for our staff, who supported us in the good times and endured during the hard times, always supporting each other and working together to help create a sense of community.”
The Plowboys Foods line, which is popular with both competition cookers and backyard BBQ enthusiasts, comprises a popular line of rubs including Yardbird Rub, honored by Good Housekeeping and sold in 30 countries around the world, Bovine Bold, Fin & Feather and The Jerk, all manufactured in Kansas City by Old World Spices & Seasonings.
The family of sauces, manufactured at Garden Complements in North Kansas City, includes KC Crossroads, Bovine Bold, Sweet 180, En Fuego, Hothead and Tarheel Tang, and is sold online at www.atbbq.com.
“While we are grateful to have developed a sense of community through our restaurants, I am eager to continue on with our retail products in a more focused way,” Johns says.
