BEST BOOK OF 2024?!?!

I love a light beach read, I love me some s**t, but sometime in mid-August I found myself really craving A BOOK, ya know? And my god do I know how to pick ‘em.

It turns out, this book is historical fiction and YA (young-adult). I had no idea about either before I started and while both genres happen to be right up my alley, if the same is not necessarily true for you, I beg you to give this a chance anyway. I finished this book weeks ago and still think about these characters daily. It’s a story of hope, strength and resilience. The Syria you meet in this book is a beautiful place. I hope to get to meet her one day. 🍋❤️

📚 before I get spammed in the comments: no this book is not “new” but it is new to me. It will not be a “best book of 2024” because it wasn’t published this year but it may very well be my personal best book of 2024 since that’s when I read it 🫶🏼

🇫🇷 throwing it back to July 31, 2016 in Reims France.

Reims is in the heart of France’s champagne country, was the center of the French Resistance in WW2 (did you know the Third Reich’s unconditional surrender was signed here?!), and is 45 minutes outside of Paris. It’s perfect for a day trip but I went for a long weekend and there’s still tons that I never got to do!

Need a good book? Here’s one ☝🏼

⏰ I read this book YEARS ago and the characters are still with me some days.

🎪 The Night Circus takes place at the turn-of-the-century, inside a circus that opens at sunset and closes at dawn. It’s got dueling magicians, a well-meaning but stubborn ghost, and just enough of a love story to set up camp under the “summer beach read” umbrella.

need a good book? Here’s one ☝🏼

⏰ I bought this book almost 18 months ago, which might not make a great start to a book review. But it’s the old “buying a book and reading a book are two separate events” thing. I heard of it and immediately knew I wanted to read it, I just didn’t want to read it RIGHT THEN.

💛 at the time I was in a fluffy beach read moment and SIGN HERE isn’t that. And then I forgot about it, and I discovered it again during another fluffy beach read moment and forgot about…and so it goes.

👌 This book takes places almost exclusively in 2 spots: the 5th floor of Hell and a lake house in New Hampshire. Yes that Hell. Yes it somehow works. And Claudia Lux’s Hell? It’s a thing of beauty. Straight from the book: “It’s music that’s too loud, food that’s too rubbery, and kissing with too much tongue”. Chefs kiss, perfection.

🔥 The cast of characters in Hell belong there, the ones at the lake house are rightfully on their way, and there you are somehow rooting for everyone and no one at the same time. .book.club first introduced me to this book and described it as Agatha Christie meets The Good Place. If you like either of those then you need to read this. And if, like me, you like both, then you’re going to love this.

📖 For those that know me outside of instagram, you know that reading is something I love to do about as much as I love to travel (I’d argue that its own form of travel, is it not?) and I’ve been thinking for awhile about the best way to incorporate that passion here.

two years ago we grabbed our boat & some friends and headed to the Florida Keys for the month of January. We quickly decided this would become an annual thing and went back to repeat it the following year. This year, for one thousand little reasons, it didn’t work out for us to go.

❄️🥶⛄️ with this weekend’s impending weather, I’ve never regretted a decision more in my life 😆😆 if anyone has a house in the keys that’s available immediately, lmk.
