Let’s talk hashtags ⬇️

But first, how exciting that Meta finally called me yesterday! I spoke to Isabella and she was so lovely and gave me so much of her time to look at my strategy and to answer any questions I had (I had A LOT!) 😅

And of course hashtags came up!

We all know hashtags have changed over the years in their purpose and how they are used. Before Instagram became a search engine in its own right, the only way people used to discover content was by searching via hashtags.

Thank goodness that has now changed! 🤭

I’m sure you are aware keywords are now the key element in helping your contents reach and discoverability. And, while hashtags have taken a back seat, they are still very important and are an additional tool that works alongside your keywords to help the right people to discover your content.

So here are 5 key things about hashtags and how we should be using them. Some may surprise you!

✨ Hashtags work like keywords today. You should use ones relevant to the post and that describe what it’s about. So do not over complicate it.

✨ You should put them in the caption, not the comments.

✨ Don’t use the same group of hashtags on every post. While you want to niche down with your hashtags, try mixing them up because your content will not be exactly the same every time.

✨ You should not use over saturated hashtags. You may have heard other creators saying it’s ok and doesn’t matter nowadays, but Isabella said the complete opposite. Be really specific with them and niche down.

✨ There is no set number on how many you should use. This one actually surprised me because Instagram announced a while back that they recommended 3-5 hashtags. But, she said the key is to not using loads for the sake of it because that can confuse the algorithm. But use as many as you want as long as it’s all about the content.
