We just took our first post-covid cruise. It was really nice to be back on board, we traveled with friends we had made on our very first cruise and generally had a wonderful time cruising to Bermuda and back from NYC. This was my eighth cruise with Norwegian, my second on the Getaway and once again I bought CruiseNext vouchers while on board ensuring that I will be going back on Norwegian at least two more times.
Having said all that, I don't think Norwegian are really back on top of their game post-Covid. I don't know if this is true but it appeared to us as if Norwegian had lost a lot of their staff during Covid and there were a lot of “newbies” on board. As I say, that may not be true but that's how it appeared. Maybe it was the masks – which staff are still required to wear – hiding their smiles which made the customer service seem just a little less than it used to be. Maybe its that Covid protocols include no towel animals, no ice or coffee in the room unless you ask for it and losing these sorts of little extras takes the whole experience down from a great 9/10 to a good 7/10.
I've said for years that I have never once stumped the bar staff with a drink order. This time I repeatedly had to explain what a fuzzy navel was, even writing down the ingredients on one occasion and one time I was told flatly that they couldn't do that – vodka, peach schnapps, orange juice – its not exactly the recipe for manna from heaven! Despite the inability to improvise a 3 ingredient drink, they did manage to get really creative with the Bloody Marys never once serving it the same way. Or should I say never twice serving it the same way? You know what I mean. It was different every time. (Oh English, what am I going to do with you?)
