Congratulations to Mr and Mrs R, who are headed down the Seine next March! They will cruise on the AmaDante from Paris to Normandy, and then back to Paris. They took advantage of the complimentary 2-N pre-cruise in Paris, so they will get to see all the things!

Japan has many beautiful shrines and temples and castles to see, but I think one of the best keep secrets is the Kintai Bridge in Iwakuni (Yamaguchi Prefecture). This wooden arch bridge stretches across the Nishiki River. It was declared a National Treasure in 1922. It is beautiful every day, but spectacular during cherry blossom season! 🇯🇵🌸

Miyajima. Home of the Itsukushima Shrine, with the gigantic “floating” torii in the water. The tide was out, so people took advantage of being able to walk around near the torii. We saw one man lose his balance and almost land…in the wet sand! We toured the Shinto shrine for the first time; parts were under renovation, but we walked through most of it. The weather was perfect! The wild deer population is much less than previous visits. And they definitely don’t bow like the Nara deer! A trip to Hiroshima isn’t complete without a visit to Miyajima!

38%. That is how often Mt Fuji is visible. Now that I know this statistic, I understand why Japanese people, not just tourists, try to be on the Mt Fuji side of the Shinkansen when traveling to/from Tokyo. We were on the wrong side of the Shinkansen when we went to Hiroshima, but we had seats on the correct side on our trip back. And Fuji-san was visible! 🎉 (tip—take lots of photos because you might end up with a few like #3😂)We were also fortunate to see her in between the passing clouds when we went to the 5th Station.

Our 15-N Japan Intensive Voyage next year will be amazing! With only 702 guests onboard, it will be a more intimate experience, with no neighborhoods on the ship to learn, easy access to all dining and lounges, and many inclusions. It would be challenging, if not impossible, to travel to all these cities in a 2-week span by land. So think of the cruise ship as a floating hotel, unpack once and visit all these port stops with us! Informational webinar on June 13th! Registration link in the comments!

Sometimes major life events cause us to change our plans. MA and R were scheduled to go to the Canadian Rockies in August, but they have their first grandbaby coming then, so we switched their Tauck trip to next August. They will be in a small group on this luxury tour. If you haven’t been to the Canadian Rockies yet, I highly recommend that you go—it is spectacularly beautiful!

Our first “non-FAM” visit was to Hiroshima Peace Park. We walked from the Hiroshima Hilton Hotel and spent some time looking around. It is a solemn place, and I was glad that everyone was being respectful and quiet.

Kinkakuji. The Golden Pavilion. One of the most photographed buildings in Japan is a Buddhist Temple. It truly is spectacular! The reflection in the water was better in my December photo (last one), but I still got some reflection.

We visited Arashiyama last week, the bamboo forest, it was very crowded; the only way to get some pics without people in them was to point my phone up. It was beautiful and could be peaceful if all the tourists were gone. 😊
