Out on the trail! Pictured is death camas with pink long leaf phlox behind it. Death camas comes out (without out it’s identifying flowers) around the same time as wild onions. So be careful! Death camas does not smell like onion.

Glacier Lily or Yellow avalanche Lily(Erythronium grandiflora) all parts edible. The corms( bulbs) are very sweet and tasty, so are the flowers. The leaves are not my favorite😊. My preferred stage is the seed pods pictures 2 and 3. This way you don’t have to spend forever digging up the corms (they are deep!)and destroying the plant. I took the flower stage photo April 23, and the seat pods were ready by May 15. Location, about 5600 ft, Western Middle Rockies. They are a great trail nibble. I will sauté these sweet seed pods today. Fun fact... An article i read on bears, concerning Glacier lilies, states that bears will dig up the corms and wait three days before eating to further their sweetness.🐻
