If you live in central Florida from west to east coast, leave now! If you are visiting central Florida, even in Orlando at the theme parks, leave now! Disney and Universal are working with those currently there to check out early. You may be able to stay but I do not recommend it! If you have a trip planned for this week, post pone and reschedule it now. This storm is no joke, a category 5 with winds now at 180mph with even higher gusts. It will enter Florida as a major hurricane and leave Florida as a hurricane! Which means all the way across the peninsula there will be devastating impacts. It may even be too late to leave tomorrow, as this will be one of the biggest evacuations Florida has seen in years and the highways will be slammed. Please prepare, please leave if possible.
If you are a traveler, whether you are already there or are supposed to head to Florida this week, please reach out to your travel agent. Don’t have one? Then reach out to your destination directly.
While Disney and Universal are operating as “normal” as of right now, this most definitely will change. I have provided the most recent storm path projected and Disney and Universal’s statements as of Oct. 7th.
Tampa International Airport will start suspending operations Tuesday morning and Orlando International will suspend operations Wednesday morning.
I am not trying to dramatize this event, but to let you know how serious this is. Florida needs to allocate all resources to its citizens, the roads need to be less congested with new tourists so citizens and current tourists can get out. If you choose to stay to ride out your vacation, when the storm passes, you may not be able to get home when you need to depending on damage. Also remember that resources are already stretched thin and very limited due to the damage caused by Helene just last week.
If you are currently at Disney or Universal and have any questions about checking out early, please let me know and I’ll do my best to help you!
Florida, my prayers are truly with you…I’ve already lost my beautiful smokies in Western NC, and I pray I don’t lose another “second home”. 💔 The south east has been through too much…please stay sa
