I love this view (and music) of Lombard Street!
Often called the "crookedest street in the world" (though it's not even the crookedest street in the city!) Lombard is a wonderful and quirky place in SF.
It may surprise you, but this is not one of the busier times on the street. If you come to San Francisco in July or August, there will often be lineups of 30-45 minutes just to make the one minute drive down this windy road!
TOUR GUY TIP: If you want to go to Lombard, my favorite way is to take a famous cable car ride! If you're staying at a hotel in Union Square, it's a perfect spot to pick up the ride. Head over to the corner of Powell Street and Market Street, and you can get in line. When you get to the front of the line, make sure the car says "Powell and Hyde" and not "Powell and Mason." The Powell-Hyde line is the right one that will take you to this spot. And have fun!

Have you visited the secret French village here?
Named for the architect who designed the village, Thornburg Village is a neighborhood most people here have never heard of. Located just across the San Francisco Bay in Berkeley (next to the university), this is one of my favorite old historic spots in the area.
Have you ever seen the Disney movie Beauty and the Beast? Like the video says, if you visit this neighborhood, I guarantee that this will remind you of the old provincial town in the movie!
I love little hidden spots like this in the middle of major cities. It really brings home the incredible stories about the area.
TOUR GUY TIP: Can you believe that Jack Thornburg, the architect who designed this area, was only 21 years old at the time? He wanted to hide this little village, so when you’re driving down the major street called Hearst, you won’t even notice it. But if you turn off Hearst and head down Spruce, you’ll see a couple of old European-style buildings. If you turn down that little cobbled alleyway, you’ll find this secret spot tucked away. It’s such a cool secret, I guarantee you if you ask 10 locals about the area, only 1 of them will know about it!

A Chinatown Walking Tour
Hello friends! People have been asking me to create videos of San Francisco, so today I'm giving you one! It's a walking tour of Chinatown I put together. I would love to hear what you think about it. And if you want to see more videos like this, please tell me in the comments. Thank you!! 👍👍👍
Normally I post my favorite photos of SF, but today we get a video!
Lombard Street is already such a beautiful spot in the city. But then when you add the perfectly timed sunrise, it gets even more incredible!
We call this the "Crookedest Street in the World!" (Although that is totally a lie--it's definitely not the windiest road around, but it's still fun to say).
TOUR GUY TIP: If you want to get up to this spot, we will very soon be able to take our historic cable car, which will be reopening very soon! And if you arrive before the cable car is in operation, don't worry! You can easily walk to Lombard Street from downtown SF, or from Fisherman's Wharf. It's not far from either area. Just take a walk on Columbus Avenue from one of these places, and it will lead you right to Lombard.

How many people know of this waterfall in the Bay Area? 😳 🌊
Known as Alamere Falls, and located just north of the city along the Point Reyes National Seashore, this is one of only two "tidefalls" along the entire 850 mile California coastline. A tidefall is a rare and special phenomenon when a river flows off a coastal cliff directly into the ocean. So we are very lucky to have one within easy driving distance!
One of the best parts of living here is incredibly easy access to some of the most beautiful open space in the world. Whether you're visiting the redwood forests, the snow capped mountains, or amazing coastal cliffs, we can get all these places very easily and quickly here!
I think it's such a cool spot! Have you ever visited these falls?
TOUR GUY TIP: If you'd like to visit Alamere Falls, you can drive out to the Palomarin Trailhead outside of Bolinas. From there, it is about a 4 mile (6 km) walk to the top of the falls, or about 6 mils (9 km) to the bottom of the falls. (Trust me, it's way safer than trying to climb down the cliffs!)

Just about every time I give a tour of the Castro area, people ask what the giant metal contraption at the top of that hill is. Welcome to Sutro Tower!
Sutro Tower is our longstanding TV and radio antenna. Built in 1973, this 977 foot creation was the tallest structure in the city, up until the Salesforce Tower was constructed.
For nearly 50 years, Sutro Tower has brought us the crisp video and audio reception our techie hearts desire.
I love this video because the creators managed to get an entire 360 degree video of the tower--something that must have taken many hours to drive around, snapping photos and gathering video, and many more hours of post production to set everything at the perfect angle! It really is a great way of seeing one of our most famous structures.
TOUR GUY TIP: Sutro Tower is named after Adolph Sutro, a former businessman and Mayor of San Francisco. He owned a large amount of land in the city, including the area where this tower sits. He also built the old Cliff House (an incredibly beautiful victorian building that was sadly destroyed by a fire) as well as Sutro Baths. And if you haven't been to the baths, you should add that to your SF Bucket LIst! It's like going to see old Roman ruins out at the edge of the world before the Pacific Ocean begins.

If you saw any news about San Francisco, it was about our crazy orange sky. This video captures it well.
I'm telling you--if you ever thought that the year 2020 couldn't throw anything more at us, yesterday proved you wrong. Who had "wildfire smoke blocking out the sun" on their apocalypse bingo card out there??
This is some amazing footage without any filter or color correction.
TOUR GUY TIP: This looks amazing and terrible, but I actually have good news for you! As may people noticed, the air quality data wasn't bad yesterday. That's because San Francisco's famous fog (technically, it's the "marine layer") hugged the lower levels of the atmosphere. That pushed the warmer smoke higher, and created a layer of protection between us and the smoke. So if you went outside and noticed that it didn't smell like smoke, you can thank our wonderful fog for that. So everybody say "Thanks @karlthefog!"

Some days, when everything feels strange and broken, it's just nice to see something that reminds you of home.
I could watch this video all day, because it feels so much like home. I love spending time sitting by the bay, having lunch (Lucca Deli in the Marina!), and enjoying the bridge and the waves. There's something really calming about it.
I'd love to hear from you! Whether you live in SF or somewhere else, what place makes you feel like home?

How cool is this video! I haven't ever seen a video like this that goes right over the tower of the bridge, and it's pretty awesome.
Pretty much every time I've seen the Golden Gate Bridge, it's either from the side, the roadway, or underneath. I don't think I've ever seen something looking straight down. It's kind of a mind-bending perspective, and I love it!
I should note here that it's actually illegal to fly a drone over the GGB without a specific permit from the government, so you should know that you're risking some real trouble if you try to recreate this shot.
