So there were a few first on my 9th sailing with Virgin Voyages. The biggest one was staying in an XL Cabin.
tl;dr: XL cabins are a nice in between basic Sea Terrace cabins and Suites. Great for longer cruises, but not a must for us on shorter ones (5 days or less).
For 7 of my other sailings, we have stayed in The Sea Terrace cabins at the back of the ship. The other was a Seriously Suite. I don't know how many times I went to go to may cabin and instinctively walked towards the back. We also were on side Z when we have more often stayed on A. But that was a quick adjustment.
They say these cabins are about 30% larger than the Central and The Sea Terrace cabins. Most, if not all, of that is in the bathroom space. The sink area is great and two people can easily use this space at the same time. Not sure if the shower is any wider or narrower, but it is definitely deeper. From I logistic stand point I get the placement of the water controls, but if they being all the way seems a bit odd in terms of turning the water on without getting wet. (The initial streams of water are COLD). The water closet area seems to be the same width and depth. Going from the carpet to the tile floor I kept wanting to step up into the bathrooms as is the case for the other Sea Terrace cabins. But there is no step it is a level transition between the two flooring types. There is a pretty big step/lip as your enter/exit the shower and water closet areas. The only other thing which is true of the all of the cruise ship bathrooms I have been on is the light switch is on the outside of the bathroom area. It would be nice to have a switch closer to the sink. I would love to see separate switches for the sink, shower and water closet areas and not just a single light for all. The only other thing that was a bit odd was that the shower door opened towards the entry way area. Since there is no actual door to the sink area I guess this provides a little bit of privacy as you exit the shower.
