Repairs have begun on the Mississippi River Bridge at Lansing
MASON CITY, Iowa – March 8, 2024 – Repairs have begun on the existing Mississippi River Bridge at Lansing according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 2 Office.
The bridge was closed on Feb.25 after it was discovered that two of the bridge piers had shifted, making the bridge unsafe for traffic.
During the repair process, portions of the bridge deck will be completely removed, leaving large gaps in the bridge surface. Several people have asked if the bridge could be used by pedestrians, but the large gaps in the deck during repairs will make crossing the bridge in any form impossible.
The repairs are expected to be completed by late April. The bridge will not be reopened until it is deemed safe.
Construction on the new bridge in the area is continuing, but it is not expected to open until 2026.

Rummage along the river is 70 miles of Garage Sales, south of La Crosse, on Highway 35 (Wisconsin Great River Road) through the communities of Stoddard, Genoa, Bad Axe Neighborhood, Victory, De Soto, Ferryville, Lynxville, and up on the ridge to Seneca and Mt. Sterling. Lodging options can be found at Rummagealongtheriver.com. Thursday, May 16, 2024, maps and sale lists will be available at pickup places and on the website around noon.
