When the Mayor of Boston calls, you ALWAYS pick up the phone.

It was flattering that was called upon by Boston’s Mayor Michelle Wu 吳弭 to have her old buddy Christian Matyi be her es**rt during the annual Caribbean Day Parade in Roxbury.

You see, her Madame Mayor is with her third child, and so walking a parade route is not so wise for an expectant mother. Pedicab wrangler Christian once again es**rted the expectable Mayor and her son Blaise through the parade route.

Because of courCity of Boston’t miss one of the largest events in the !

For half a century (YES HALF A CENTURY), the and parade has been one of the largest cultural events in the whole city. Rivalling Boston’s legendary St. Patrick’s Day, Caribbean Day boasts a longer parade route and perhaps larger attendance than almost any other event day in the city!

So this was definitely a day for the Mayor to show up.!

And of course, XN’s skills were the perfect way to keep the City’s First Mother off her feet for stretched of the route.

The TrikeHub is grateful to the Mayor for keeping Boston’s pedicabs as there representative of pedestrianism in the city.

Thanks Mayor Wu!

Imagine being the very, very firstest ride that newlyweds take together…

Sigh.

It’s crazy romantic.

A couple gets married, and then the first thing they do together is pop in a Just married pedicab and off they go to start their adventure.

This is one of those perks of the job that can’t be beat.

Congratulations to the Lauren & Emily! All us slabs of Boston wish you many, many joyous years to come!

LIONSPOTTING. Yup. We keep finding ‘em.

Maybe not our page’s most glamorous series, but pedicabs are about seeing stuff. So it makes sense to keep showing how we’re not (totally) crazy, and there are, indeed, (for whatever reason) Lions all over Boston.

Okay, so I guess is a thing.

Long-time pedicab driver and constantly-freaked-out-slab got the annual Opening Day pic frame thrown at him.

But like any pedicab driver at on Opening Day, he made a deal. Grabbing one of the not-to-be-named execs, he finagled a deal. If WEEI shouts us back, we will keep this post up.

Clock is ticking, ! Gauntlet thrown! Let’s play ball!

The characters of the Fenway are back. Time to cheer for your favorite game-day heroes. No – not those . (Although props for them, too!) We’re talking about (of course) the pedicab drivers of Boston who make every Fenway day a treat – ESPECIALLY OPENING DAY!

Yes, yes, you can book ahead of time. (We get asked all the time.)

Don’t drive. Seriously – don’t be like those boring fans who try to walk or – GASP! – actually driver to Fenway!

Okay, Boston fans – you know the words. All together, now – with FEELING:

DON’T👏EVER👏DRIVE👏TO👏FENWAY👏!!!!

Ugh. Twits! Who is d***y enough to try to take a car to Fenway??
Amateurs, right???

And that’s why us drivers are out here. Because every game day should be a blast!

Call ahead or find us right on the street, posted up at:
* Along Dalton Street at Boylston Street, The Sheraton, and in front of Bukowski’s
* Along Huntington Ave. in front of the Pru (near Colonnade)
* At the Marriott Copley (Ring Road and Huntington Ave.)
* In front of the Prudential Center, Boylston Street entrance

Watch for us throughout Back Bay, or call ahead!

Opening Day is here!

That thing where a 10-year-old gives as good a tour as a pedicab driver!

It was tempting for veteran Boston tour guide to want to just hand the saddle over to John and Michael. That kid had some amazing jokes and in eleven years we definitely want to get him hired as an official slab!

Father and son spent the day exploring Boston, hunting for clues about geography, digging into curious sports trivia, learning about broke kings and Victorian architecture, and of course some Bostonian lionspotting!

Pedicab tours of Boston bend and shape themselves to the passengers, and definitely are a blast.

And every once in a while a young passenger outwits the driver!

LIONSPOTTING in Boston.

Folks on pedicabs have noticed for years, for some reason, in Boston, lions are tucked away everywhere. Pay attention and you’;ll start seeing the felines tucked in everywhere.

Sometimes they are just a little detail that you probably walked right by a thousand times but didn’t even notice. Like this kitty swirled into the filagree.

Pedicab tour season is already beginning, and the Lionspotting game in Boston will be in full swing in no time.

Just hanging around in alleys down by The Modern. We relate.

People generally think of us pedicab drivers as alley clowns, too. So we feel similar to these two.

Likewise, tourists often laugh at us, pointing and snapping pictures. Yeah, we are kin.

And the heroes of this whimsical art install are our partners at . We also think they’re heroic, so same same.

It’s part of an ongoing series of art installations called “Winteractive,” which are designed to draw curiosity and encourage Downtown visitors to look closely, smile, and look up.

These two weirdos are named Nagg and Nell, and the piece is called Endgame.

And considering winter pedicabbing is also sort of a perpetual endgame yeah, we relate to that too,.

Just a few more shots of the warm vibes we were honored to ride during Dorchester Open Streets.

Thanks to team at for working so hard with and the to keep these amazing weekends happening!

We’re as on board with ’s Open Streets program as the is apparently on board with us!

Seeing Boston’s mayor on board a pedicab with the head organizer of Open Streets is an honor and a thrill. That smile on ’s is genuine, trust us.

Open Streets Allston-Brighton was another vibrant success, allowing neighbors to experience what Boston could be like (and once upon a time actually was) when the streets were not ruled by cars, but rather were vibrant spaces for businesses, dining, and community.

While cars will always be necessary in a city, we get excited seeing how many people notice that the city operates far better when it is not prioritizing cars. Businesses thrive; safety increases; the whole place is just a lot more fun and neighborly!

Now maybe we’re biased because we’re the only vehicles out there, but from our vantage point Open Streets is an important engagement with the city on the streets level.

Thanks again, ayor Wu and Shana Bryant!

See you guys in Dorchester with more FREE RIDES!

(Oh, did we forget to mention? Yes the pedicab rides are FREE FOR ALL at Open Streets events!)

Sometimes it takes super heroic patience to hear the same things over and over…

Don’t get it twisted. Pedicab drivers love their passengers. (Mostly.) But, boy, do we hear the same repetitive blunders over rand over and over in this job…

Sigh.

But fortunately we’re all pretty much superiors on three wheels, so while we may roll our eyes when folks aren’t watching, we promise not to slap you if you trip up.

LIONSPOTTING!

Boston is for some weird reason decorated with tons and tons of lions. They’re usually small and subtle, but once you know to watch for them you start seeing the King Of Beasts popping up all over the city.

Lots of guesses as to why, but nowhere can we find any “official academic rationale” as to why…

This freaky feline (he looks a little mutated – like have dude half cat) was spotted over in the Fens.

Someone in the comments will inevitably guess where.

Hint: nearby to where the Boston braves once played ball . . .

TOUR TUESDAYS IS A THING. (Ni***es not mandatory.)

While we couldn't get pedicab tour guide to wear a tanktop that fits (PULL IT TOGETHER, XN, sheesh!) we did catch him on one of his epic "deep Boston" tours.

There is literally no better way to tour Boston than with a pedicab driver. We are in these streets constantly and so we are constantly accumulating fascinating tidbits, secrets, scuttlebutt, trivia, factoids, lore, tales, themes, and ephemera.

The best thing about pedicab touring is there is no set route! It is ALWAYS a la carte, and always deeply personal.

For whatever reason, Mondays and Tuesdays seem to be a favorite day for pedicab tours, with "Tour Tuesday" being a small summertime expectation among drivers.

Even if you're a long time local, pedicab tours will surprise you. It's not just history. Everything from aer to gossip to crime to comedy to architecture to scenery to geology (YES GEOLOGY – SO WHAT???) and more.

And usually on tours there's no ni***es! (JEEZ, XN – COME ON, bro.)

Ever fall so madly in love that you can't stop smiling? Yeah? Well, was it with a job...?

The romance was renewed with driving pedicabs during Roxbury Open Streets a few weeks back. Yes, the smiles on drivers are real. We love this gig, and the vibes along Blue Hill Avenue only magnified the swoon factor!

Pedicab is a labor job. That's not a bad thing! We too often forget in our pos**ty-posh-posh city that labor is not a lesser thing – and, in fact, some kinds of that labor can be fun! Pedicab isn't exercise, it's labor – but it's a job you can't help but love!

Being hired by the to give free pedicab rides make the job all that much more satisfying! We know our on-the-street rates can sometimes surge when we're super in-demand, and that means a lot of folks don't get the fun experience of a pedicab ride. But thanks to the tireless work of , everyone at EVERY Open Streets will be able to enjoy the city in the slightly-bougie-never-boring seat of a pedicab!

These smiles are real. Hard not to love this job.

See you at the next Open Streets, and hopefully out on the streets sooner!

"Sell a ride, ya lazy slab!"

That Lansdowne grind. It looks lazy, but trust us, it's strategic.

Two pedicab driver legends in Boston – the enigmatic Joel and the charismatic – chill at the "bottom" of Lansdowne Street in front of .

Yes, in pedicab lingo Lansdowne has a "top" and "bottom."

Often, when its the "mid" of a game (more lingo) you'll see pedicab drivers sort of lounging around at the pedicab posts outside of . (We call it "stacked up," which is different from "stacking cabs," but these are terms to explain on another day, kids.)

They look lazy.
They look loafy.
They look bored.

They're not.

This chillaxation is actually a strategy. Remember, this is a labor job, and especially during the hustle of an event the amount of sheer energy we use is astonishing, Imagine running two marathons back to back – while cracking jokes – and you will get a sense of the physical taxation the job places on the body.

So in between hustles, drivers will intentionally drop into a relaxed state. We crack jokes and do bits to keep our mood up. We lounge in our pedicabs top get some rest. We look like lazy slobs, but it is actually a way of preserving ourselves.

Of course, we know what we must look like tt he uninformed, Which is why we often roll by and tease each other.

"Sell a damn ride, ya lazy slab!"

But we ain't lazy. We're strategic.

Where else except Boston do you have your pick of dozens of tree species between which hang a hammock?

Most folks don’t even realize the beloved Public Garden is also a mini tree museum. (We think the technical term is “teeny arboretum” which is fun phrase to say out loud. Try it. See? Told ya.)

Even in spite of the wet, wet weather these past couple months, summer is, indeed, here. Locals are taking full advantage of it . . . until the next wave of wet rolls through.

Meet at Mozart Park. Try not to die.

The instructions for pedicab drivers are generally simple, but always specific.

These folk are heroes-and-a-half. The work they pulled off during the 2023 inaugural annual Open Streets in Jamaica Plain was flawless. No literally – we didn’t screw up once! (Trust us: we are as impressed as you are.)

Every pedicab driver is a licensed and insured contractor. Each one is a little, teeny-tiny business.

We’re a labor community of deeply independent thinkers, creators, workers, and dreamers. The slab community of Boston (“slab” is the slang for pedicab operator, in case you’re still living under a rock) is made up of grad students and nurse practitioners and classical musicians and rock stars and farmers and teachers and counter-establishment travelers and mechanics and artists and parents and, oh, just all sorts.

And each and every one is a magical hero in the eyes of the TrikeHub, and we hope to the rest of the city. (Thanks so much to for elevating us again and again!)

We exist in the liminal space between pedestrian and vehicle.
We operate as an urban entertainment treat rather than a stoic transport service.
We chatter and natter and gab and quip about literally every topic under the sun.
We share weird tastes and swap off-color humor.

We are the drivers.
Pedicabs are cool, but they aren’t anything without the magic of the drivers.

When the calls on us, they are hiring professionals – weird and silly ones, yes, hut top-drawer professionals – who bring the streets alive, strive for equity, and keep things real as f*ck like nothing else in our fine city.

We’re grateful to be part of the Open Streets series.
We’re proud to be part of the fabric of Boston.
We’re excited to be one community, one tribe.

We’re the pedicab drivers of Boston.
We met at Mozart Park.
We didn’t die.

And now we need a shower.

I mean…ya think they’re…y’know…sorta…y’know…………..unshowered…..?

Pride and s**t, y’all.

It’s illegal to be boring or hateful. You’re not allowed to suck.

We slabs of Boston don’t always follow every rule, but this is one we never disobey.

There’s a heck ton of LGBTQ+ folk in the pedicab community.

Our community’s “we’re one tribe while on the road” philosophy means that those of us who may not be the straightest among our fellow mostly-unshowered family know we have a lot of allies.

We may sometimes get stinky, but we’re still all about equity, visibility, inclusion, and generally not being s**tty to others who are different from yourself.

We love riding Pride in Boston. And we’re grateful to for bringing back one oof the coolest days to be a dirty trike rider.

See you out there. But no hugs unless you don’t mind getting a little grimy.

Stay weird.
Stay q***r.
Stay proud.

LIONSPOTTING.

This is NOT just some phenomenon we’re making up.

There a really are a ton of lions in Boston.

But according to most underwhelmed pigeons, they’re not as intimidating as they appear.

Hardly a section of downtown where you don’t find the felines dotted about.

We’re still not sure why. But as much as Boston is a known for it’s terriers, squirrels, and quahogs, the one animal you’re most likely to encounter on a daily basis sis (for WHATEVER reason) a lion.

"Noltie te bastardes carborundorum." – HyenaCult.

Congrats to you if you know local Boston so well that you know where this epic dumpster lives. There's an obvious hinto overhead, but it's a beloved place that many adults in Boston have never even set foot in.

However, we are dead certain that the locals who love the spot are quite fine with the absence of adult presence. They might ruin the vibe.

Either way, Real Boston is always found in the little hyperlocal ways we make the city our own.

And "don't let the bastards get us down."

Pedicab drivers aren’t just Boston newsmedia darlings. We make the freakin’ FRONT PAGE PICTURE, babies!

Granted, when you’re a trike-style maven like long-time pedicab driver , it’s hard to keep the paparazzi at bay. We’re not surprised the chose for its front page story this cheery shot of Chance bringing excited fans to the playoff game at .

There is tons of popularity these days when cars become excluded and streets are open to pedestrians, businesses, bikes and (of course) pedicabs. Streets become safer. Businesses make more money. People are generally happier. Car-reduction in Boston makes for a better Boston, every time.

Pedicabs are as iconic to the streets of Boston as green jerseys on game days. We love when we become the symbolic ambassadors of improved street life in the city!

And of course what would game day be without a pedicab ride? While many incorrectly associate pedicabs with , we are actually bustling around all over the city, and are an iconic part of the Causeway and Canal Street scenes!

We’re loving the momentum of the Celtics and the , and excited that the city is encouraging fans to be out and about by prioritizing the streets for the foot traffic – and trike traffic!

And the Globe couldn’t have picked a better trike jockey to represent the joy of car-free local streets!

You’re a star, Chance!

LIONSPOTTING!

On this edition: you’re gonna have a hard time guessing where these exotic Boston lions are located.

They sit in one of those “if you know you know” locations, because those in the know probably walk by them hundreds of times a year, if not thousands. But the majority of us would totally overlook them.

Which is shame because they are FANCY. Boston loves lions (for whatever reason we can’t figure out) almost as much as we love things POSH. What gets more posh than a sphinx???

Oh, and for you nitpicks nerds, we count sphinxes (sphinx? sphinx? what’s the plural…?) as part of the lion family. DEAL WITH IT. If you have some mythological argument, please leave it in the comments where we will quibble with you because the third thing Bostonians love is quibbling over ephemera.

(Now you’re gonna go look up “ephemera” aren’t you?)

Also, maybe they’re not true sphinxes because they have THREE HORNS for some reason. But being tricycle drivers, we NEVER fault anyone for a third something that usually comes in pairs.

Anyway, let us know if you know where these Boston lions live. If you can’t figure it out, let su know and we’ll show you on a pedicab ride!

BUTTER BEACHES! (Get it???)

The program is called Better Beaches, brought to you by the incredible folks at . But for the annual costume contest held at their Shamrock Splash kick-off event, we decided to BUTTER UP THE JUDGES (har har har har)!

Better Beaches has been improving the many Beaches that share Boston Harbor for a long time through civic engagement and community involvement. Pedicab drivers of Boston love helping ambassador the project every year, expanding inclusion and diversity initiatives – and fun – for ALL of greater Boston along the beaches.

One COULD say Better Beaches prevents members of the community from being MARGARINEilized from the beach! (HAHAHA! GET IT????)

Our choice this year was somewhat DAIRYing but we’re bold! While we didn’t win the first prize, co-founders and definitely MELTED the hearts of everyone!

Special shouts to pedicab drivers .eth and for helping SPREAD THE LOVE. (OOH! WE’RE ON FIRE!

We love that our trike-cousin Aaron from was inspired to swipe the costume for some of his BUTTERY grooves.

Okay, okay. Enough butter puns. We don’t wanna CLOG YOUR ARTERIES with our flavor!

(Yeah, that one was labored. We’re done now. Promise.)

SEE YOU ON THE BEACHES THIS SUMMER!
