Yesterday Sorrento was full of surprises! We happened upon a procession in honor of San Antonino, the Patron Saint of Sorrento who protects the citrus crops and farmers. 🍋🟩🍊 🧑🌾🇮🇹✨During the nineteenth century, the Land of the Sirens experienced the greatest diffusion and growth of citrus growing which brought money to the area. Farmers and traders invoked the protection of Sant'Antonino over the citrus groves, the crops, and all those who worked the land. The celebration on the first Sunday of May was officially recognized with a Royal Decree by King Ferdinand II in 1846. April 25th is the Festa della Liberazione in Italy. It is a holiday that commemorates the victory of the Italian resistance movement against Nazi Germany and the fascist Italian Social Republic. It is a part of world history of which many Americans are not aware.
We would be remiss to celebrate this day and not state that (especially in light of the current political and social climate) it is important to promote peace and freedom of ALL people. We believe that every human being has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and we stand against any individual or any political party that strives to undermine and limit freedom.

There is nothing that rivals the beauty of Italy except, perhaps, the food. Isidoro and I like to think that - - rather than rivaling the beauty of Italy - - the cuisine compliments its beauty. One of our favorite pieces of advice for our clients is to compare the food and wine in each region they visit. We suggest taking particular notice of the taste of the wine, the type and shape of pastas and the sauces paired with them, and ALWAYS request wine and the food that is particular to the region. It is a way to experience each region’s geography, history and culture which allows a stronger connection in your experience of Italy. It is also a moment to slow down, be present, use your senses, and enjoy life. Because Italian’s have mastered the art of so many things, including food. Happy International Women's Day! In Italy the holiday is known as La Festa della Donna. The Mimosa flower blooms at this time of year and it is given to women on March 8th. Giving mimosa flowers on March 8th is not considered a romantic gesture but one of solidarity. It is said that Teresa Mattei, one of Italy’s first women in Italian politics was responsible for making the mimosa the symbol of Women’s Day in 1946. As a schoolgirl, Mattei was suspended from school for criticizing the anti-Semitic laws adopted by fascist Italy. At age 25, she became the youngest person to be elected to the Constituent Assembly. Teresa Mattei became national director of the Italian Women’s Union.
