Happy Friday! What a great way to dive into the weekend with some incredible departures this week/weekend.

* Wishing a special couple an amazing 2 weeks aboard the Viking Neptune exploring the British Isle.

* 3 generations are kicking off their Greek Isles cruise this week with a pre-cruise stay in Athens

* A special honeymoon couple will be enjoying a week of post-wedding relaxation at the beautiful, adults only Couples Swept Away

* The kindest couple (and amazing friends) just departed tonight for their week in Iceland. Complete with a special dining reservations at Fridheimer (can't wait to hear about it).

* AND just booked today - A special couple found themselves able to get away for a last minute weekend (kids free) in Las Vegas with a stay at the Bellagio.

Summer has kicked off with some exciting trips for Travel By Design travelers! This week we have clients exploring the Canadian Rockies on a customized itinerary, a family enjoying Texas via overnight Amtrak rail, a personalized Alaska land package for friends, and 2 couples soaking in the beauty of the Azores (Portugal).

Thought now is a good time to share the advice below that someone shared with me long ago as graduation season is quickly approaching.

Years go by in the blink of an eye. Live your life. Go places. Do things. If you have the means or not. Pack a bag and go wherever you can afford to go. Don’t buy "stuff". Any stuff. See the world. Look through travel magazines (call your travel agent) and pick a spot. GO!

Glamping–the blend of glamour and camping–has been taking fun and unique travel experience to a whole new level lately.
There is an increasing demand for unique and immersive travel experience.

Today we confirmed a stay at Under Canvas Acadia for a special couple. Another couple just locked in their Africa safari adventure. And I booked my own family's stay at Chico Hot Springs Lodge in Montana for this summer - glad they are all up for a "glamping" experience in a covered wagon!

This unique, customized Costa Rica itinerary for a father and his daughter and son-in-law was a fun one! Thanks John C for your feedback on this special trip.

"We had a wonderful time. We were repeatedly amazed at the way the people responsible for the rides to and from different sites showed up on time and with our information in hand. The places we visited were memorable. Between my daughter and I we took more than 1,000 photos. Hotel Kioro was a true luxury hotel, and the hotel grounds were beautifully landscaped. Hotel Belmar is a real treasure. The service was magnificent, and the hotel restaurant was wonderful. Thank you for arranging everything for us."

A special client shared this video of ending their customized 2 week Italian aventure on a water taxi transfer back to the airport. She said it was the most amazing way to end the trip and say "goodbye" to Italy.

Wanderlust (n.) a strong desire for or impulse to wander or travel and explore the world

When I started in the travel industry 20+ years ago, I was constantly told to pick a "niche" and focus on that type of travel. Fortunately, I never followed that advice...because I love ALL types of travel.

It's the perfect departure day for 2 couples embarking from NYC to Montreal to explore the Fall colors on Viking Ocean Cruises - Eastern Seaboard Explorer. To kick off the trip, they will be enjoying 2 pre nights in New York City with tickets to Hamilton, a dinner cruise on the East and Hudson River and a tour of the 9/11 Memorial.

Wishing a fantastic and memorable trip to a longtime client and her son that departed today for a customized trip to Scotland for a family wedding and then off to Portugal and Spain! They will spend the next 2 weeks exploring Scotland and Portugal before completing their adventure in Spain. I cannot wait to see the pictures and hear about this one!

The importance of family vacations |

I read an article the other day that stuck with me as a mom (not as a travel agent) about the importance of family vacations and making memories with our children. It doesn't matter where you are going as long as you make it a fun, memorable experience. Finding fun things to do, new exciting things to show them and creating a bond that will last a lifetime.

We spent a couple of days last week on a fun, simple roadtrip to a new destination that our kids had not yet experienced until now. Just being together, enjoying their delight in exploring somewhere new. Just being present in the moment - it was good for all of us!

Such devestating news out of Lahaina, Maui today. Sending positive vibes and many prayers to all affected by the wild fires that have destroyed the town and surrounding areas.

Maui is a special place to many of my clients and myself - made me look back at some pictures of the beautiful town from our past visits and thankful we got to experience this slice of paradise.

Passport processing can take as long as 11 weeks for routine requests and 7 weeks for expedited service. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get a valid passport before you travel internationally.

What a day for some big trip departures!

One very special family is off to Italy to make some lifelong memories - a customized tour that includes Sorrento, Amalfi Coast, Sicily, Rome and a stay in Venice. Cheers to many more happy years to come!

Next, 2 sisters and their spouses are off to enjoy a memorable trip aboard the Rocky Mountaineer through the stunning Canadian Rockies. So glad they could enjoy this special getaway together.

And finally, 2 longtime college friends and spouses will reunite (one lives in Michigan and the other in Texas) to explore the Finger Lakes in New York with a stay at the beautiful boutique hotel - Gevena on the Lake. Cheers to great views and amazing wine!
