Hello August!! I cannot believe the summer is almost over. It definitely flew by, but that doesn’t mean the fun stops in Milwaukee. This is a pretty busy month so make sure you get out there and have some fun! To help you out, I compiled a list of festivals happening around the area this month. If I missed something, please drop it in the comments! I hope to see you around!
Houston is easily one of my favorite U.S. cities. I went last month to see my girls Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla in concert, and it was such a vibe!! We went for the weekend, and had a good ol’ time. If you haven’t been, you’re missing out. Their Sunday Fundays are unmatched. What are your favorite things to do in Houston?
If you’re not from Milwaukee or have been living under a rock, the Republican National Convention is being hosted here July 15-18 although we’ve already been feeling its effects.
I personally am skipping town because I don’t want to be in the presence of that energy. If you’re going to be around, you should check out the Great Milwaukee Block Party. It’s a weeklong lineup of events promoting peace and community since the Cheeto called Milwaukee a horrible city. There’s a wide variety of events from DJ nights to Drag Bingo to neighborhood bike rides. You can check out their page for the full list of events because it’s constantly being updated.

Happy Juneteenth! Did you know that Milwaukee has one of the longest running Juneteenth celebrations in the country?! 2024 marks year 53. Growing up, my parents took me pretty much every year, and it was a shock to me when I discovered a lot of other cities didn’t celebrate Juneteenth. I’m grateful to have grown up in a city that understands the importance of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. 🖤❤️💚

I checked off another item on my bucket list yesterday: to see the Boston Celtics play in a NBA Finals game. I’ve been a Boston fan since I was little, and I’m honestly not sure how it all started. The game definitely didn’t turn out how I wanted, but I still think the Celtics will be this year’s NBA Champions.
The Dallas Mavericks showed me an amazing time though! The energy was bonkers, the game festivities were top tier, and I’ve never seen a drone show like theirs in my life. All in all, I’m happy I splurged on a ticket. Who do you think is going to win it all?

Did you know the world’s first permanent bar made of ice is located in Stockholm, Sweden? It’s one of the coolest places I’ve ever visited. No pun intended. 😂

If you’re looking for a place to stay in Las Vegas, I highly recommend Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. I stayed here when I went to see Usher last fall, and it’s probably my favorite hotel I’ve booked for myself. It’s not located on The Strip, and that was fine for us because it was a short trip, and we wanted to scope out a new area of the city. I’ve also lost count at how many times I’ve been to Vegas.
The rooms were spacious, there are restaurants on site that are actually good, I loved the aesthetics, the service was great, and the daily resort fee includes coupons for free drinks and free food. They even gave us a tour of one of the Presidential Suites, and it was absolutely bonkers. This hotel was much cheaper than the ones we looked at on The Strip, and I thought it was money well spent.

Whenever I talk to clients that want to travel to Los Cabos, the first thing I let them know is that the vast majority of Resorts and Hotels don’t have swimmable beaches. This is because the waters can get rocky and very dangerous. There are swimmable beaches though. You just may need to walk a little bit to get to it. Over the weekend, I celebrated another year of full time entrepreneurship. I stopped practicing law three years ago to chase my dream of traveling the world. I was invited to check out Backstreet BBQ & Hotpot, and it was such an unique experience! It’s all-you-can-eat BBQ & Hotpot. I’ll be honest: we had NO idea what we were getting ourselves into. We didn’t realize that we’re basically cooking our own food. The staff was amazing and helped us out until we found our groove because we definitely looked lost lol. There’s a large variety of meat, seafood, and vegetarian options to choose from. The menu was lowkey overwhelming. We enjoyed everything we ate though. I HIGHLY recommend the Honey BBQ Beef. I’d definitely go back now that I know what to expect. Story Timeeee!! Before I get into it, if you own a small business, PLEASE MAKE SURE IT’S PROTECTED!! It’s absolutely necessary to consult with legal counsel because one mistake can put your entire operation into jeopardy. This should be one of your most important business expenses. . . Now, to the story. I planned a group trip for a birthday that ended up getting canceled. As a travel agent, cancellations happen. It’s a part of the job. One of the travelers decided not to purchase travel insurance. (After seeing what happened during the panorama, I really don’t understand why people do this.) When my clients choose not to purchase travel insurance, I make them fill out a waiver saying they understand the risks and won’t hold me liable if something happens. This client filled out the waiver. . . When the trip was canceled, everyone who purchased insurance was able to get their money back or receive a future travel credit. The one person who didn’t decided to file a credit card chargeback saying they didn’t receive the services!!!! I was absolutely appalled. It was a shady move if you ask me. . . Luckily, I’m a lawyer and keep documentation of EVERY email and had a copy of the waiver they signed. I ended up winning the dispute. If I hadn’t, I was going to be held personally liable for almost $2,000! Smh. In order to recoup that money, I would’ve had to go to their home state and sue them. I was fully prepared to do so because it was entirely their fault for not purchasing travel insurance. I obviously will never work with this person again. . . People be out here trying to scam, and this situation could’ve turned out much worse had I not taken the proper precautions to protect my business.
