Whenever I talk to clients that want to travel to Los Cabos, the first thing I let them know is that the vast majority of Resorts and Hotels don’t have swimmable beaches. This is because the waters can get rocky and very dangerous. There are swimmable beaches though. You just may need to walk a little bit to get to it. Over the weekend, I celebrated another year of full time entrepreneurship. I stopped practicing law three years ago to chase my dream of traveling the world. I was invited to check out Backstreet BBQ & Hotpot, and it was such an unique experience! It’s all-you-can-eat BBQ & Hotpot. I’ll be honest: we had NO idea what we were getting ourselves into. We didn’t realize that we’re basically cooking our own food. The staff was amazing and helped us out until we found our groove because we definitely looked lost lol. There’s a large variety of meat, seafood, and vegetarian options to choose from. The menu was lowkey overwhelming. We enjoyed everything we ate though. I HIGHLY recommend the Honey BBQ Beef. I’d definitely go back now that I know what to expect. Story Timeeee!! Before I get into it, if you own a small business, PLEASE MAKE SURE IT’S PROTECTED!! It’s absolutely necessary to consult with legal counsel because one mistake can put your entire operation into jeopardy. This should be one of your most important business expenses.

Now, to the story. I planned a group trip for a birthday that ended up getting canceled. As a travel agent, cancellations happen. It’s a part of the job. One of the travelers decided not to purchase travel insurance. (After seeing what happened during the panorama, I really don’t understand why people do this.) When my clients choose not to purchase travel insurance, I make them fill out a waiver saying they understand the risks and won’t hold me liable if something happens. This client filled out the waiver.

When the trip was canceled, everyone who purchased insurance was able to get their money back or receive a future travel credit. The one person who didn’t decided to file a credit card chargeback saying they didn’t receive the services!!!! I was absolutely appalled. It was a shady move if you ask me.

Luckily, I’m a lawyer and keep documentation of EVERY email and had a copy of the waiver they signed. I ended up winning the dispute. If I hadn’t, I was going to be held personally liable for almost $2,000! Smh. In order to recoup that money, I would’ve had to go to their home state and sue them. I was fully prepared to do so because it was entirely their fault for not purchasing travel insurance. I obviously will never work with this person again.

People be out here trying to scam, and this situation could’ve turned out much worse had I not taken the proper precautions to protect my business.
