Today marks two weeks since my awesome friend passed away. He was a father of two great boy, a Maine Guide where I first met him, on the Penobscot River, 35 plus years ago, we had so much fun. A resident of Chusuncook village from the time he was a young man and the keeper of history of the village. He loved walking the shore looking for native and logging artifacts and he found many of both. I always enjoyed bringing my son up to the village to visit him and listen to his stories. When my son and I would camp out at Longly campsite he and his dog Fig would motor over in the morning for coffee, miles away.
I always enjoyed walking below the high water line looking for artifacts, very few would escape his eye.
I’m here in the Mountains of North Carolina keeping the fire burning and closing up his house where he resided for the past three years, he couldn’t take the northern snow anymore. I’m taking care of his place and packing up the stuff so the boys can put it on the market soon. It’s a sad state of affairs.
I found this little poem on his refrigerator the other day, I think he knew time was short.
Enjoy life my friends because, you never know when it will come to an end. He had a list of projects for me to do this visit and lots of plans for the summer.
