This was my favorite vacation; for our 20th anniversary. I had always wanted to try a cruise, but it seemed too overwhelming - which cruise line, what itinerary, how many days, what kind of cabin etc. A friend of ours was going on a cruise on Princess Cruise Line with a group and asked if we wanted to join them. It was the beautiful beginning of years of adventures. It was on that cruise that we discovered our favorite island, St. Maarten where we became frequent fliers. We've cruised many more times on Princess as well as Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Carnival and we love them all for their unique cultures and offerings.

The proposal (36 pages of details) has been submitted to the CDC. No other area of hospitality, tourism and travel has even come close to these efforts to ensure the safety of their guests. Now it's up to the CDC.
Hoping they get it done soon - I have a cruise booked the end of November.
Today, the Healthy Sail Panel submitted recommendations to the CDC outlining 74 detailed best practices across 5 key areas to protect the public health and safety of guests, crew and the communities cruise ships visit. Royal Caribbean will use these recommendations to inform the development of new, detailed protocols, which will be submitted to the CDC and other authorities around the globe for review and approval – an important milestone for us to get back to delivering the amazing vacations you deserve.

Do you have any vacation plans now that things are starting to open up?
Right now, for those of us who are a little more on the adventurous side, the deals are pretty sweet.
Airfare from Boston to Miami right now at the end of August is just $115 RT - and if you book before June 30, there will be no change fees should you need to change your flight to another date - who can remember when that last happened?
I did say “a little more on the adventurous side”, so we can pair that with a 3 night cruise to the Bahamas (Nassau) with a visit to Royal Caribbean’s private island “Perfect Day at Coco Cay” as seen in the video below.
The beauty of this cruise is that the Bahamas are so close to the US - practically swimming distance - maybe not swimming distance, but you know what I mean.
And, all the cruise lines are offering their “Cruise with Confidence” protection (at no cost) where you can cancel up to 48 hours before departure for any reason with a full refund.
Better yet, if the cruise line cancels, you get Future Cruise Credit valued at 125% of your original cruise fare, or a 100% refund - your choice.
Cruise lines will be running at around 50% capacity at least through the end of the 2020. I would be very surprised if they even ran that much. Starting in 2021, they’ll be increasing incrementally.
The price for this cruise (based on today’s rate) is between $800 and $900 for an inside cabin for 2 people. If you’ve never cruised before, this price includes 24/7 food, non carbonated beverages, and first class entertainment - musicals, comedy, magic.
If you’ve never been on a cruise before, or have just never sailed on Royal Caribbean, I will be hosting a Virtual Cruise Night, presented by Royal Caribbean in the near future. Let me know if you would like to attend (virtually) either in the comments below or via email to [email protected] - if you’d just like more information on this particular cruise (end of August) or any cruise for that matter, you can either email or PM me.
Here are 11 must do's for any visit to Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean's new private island in the Bahamas that's unlike any you've ever been before....

Today's Virtual Visit
05/04/2020
Thank you for joining me on our Virtual Cruise. I know those of us who do love to cruise will be back at it soon. But for those of you who vacation in other ways, like camping, road trips, resort vacations etc., I'd like to include those as well.
Harry and I actually bought a timeshare in St. Maarten on our first cruise and spent many, many happy times there, so much so that one time, as soon as we picked up our luggage and headed out toward the taxi area we heard "Wolfman! (that's what the car rental guy at our resort called Harry) You need a car?" We told him thanks, but this was an extra vacation we weren't staying at the resort. He tossed us the keys, took us over to a car and told us to just stop by and fill out the paperwork after we were settled. St. Maarten is truly the "Friendly Island".

It has been a tough couple of weeks for the cruise ship industry and their passengers. Today, all cruise lines, with the exception of a very few, have agreed to suspend sailings. Most will resume operations in a month, some will wait 2 months. There is good news though for many who had a cruise cancelled, like my friends Ron and Sue who were married today and had plans to head out on the Regal Princess for their honeymoon tomorrow. Not only did Princess refund their money, but they also gave them a free future cruise. And while they are disappointed about tomorrow's cruise, they are thrilled with the way Princess handled it.

Frugal Cabins - A Guide to finding the best cabin for your best cruise experience at the best price.
Terminology for those of you new to cruising: Category - type of cabin (inside, oceanview, balcony etc). Location on decks: Mid (middle of the ship), For (front of the ship) Aft (back of the ship)
A general guide for pricing on cabins, low to high:
Category - Inside, Oceanview, Boardwalk or Parkview Balcony (Inside balconies found on newer or recently renovated ships), Oceanview Balcony, Mini Suite, Suite, Penthouse
Decks - lowest to highest
Location - Aft, For, Mid
1. AVOID the DETRACTORS that will take away from your best experience
MOTION SENSITIVITY
➤HIgh sensitity to motion
Inside Cabins -- Mid ship -- Lowest decks
➤Medium sensitivity
Inside Cabins - low to middle decks -- midway between mid and for/aft
Note Very few cabins available in this area on the newer larger ships - best to book 18 month to a year in advance
NEW Inside Balcony option - These cabins have balconies over looking the Boardwalk in the middle of the ship -- lower decks
➤Mild Sensitivity
Inside Cabin -- Low to middle decks
Oceanview -- midship -- lower decks
Boardwalk Balcony -- for or midship
Oceanview Balcony or /Suite -- lowest decks -- mid ship
NOISE SENSITIVITY
Choose:
Decks that do not have activities or dining either directly above or below
Stay away from:
Decks with activities or dining
Cabins near elevators
2. BEST CABIN EXPERIENCE FOR YOU
➤For people like to do as much as possible in the limited time you have
Want to experience EVERYTHING the ship has to offer
Love the energy of the crowds
Will be in the cabin only to sleep, shower and change clothes
Are not claustrophobic
Inside cabin is the most frugal choice. Inside cabins are generally the least expensive on the ship. There are no windows, but there is a “Front of the Ship” TV channel - keep it on and when dawn breaks you’ll get light in your room. Otherwise, set your alarm.

I Love to Travel!!
But I don’t like to spend more money than necessary to provide me with the experience I want.
Frugal Vacationing is a delicate balance, it’s the best experience with the least waste of time, money and stress.
Frugal and cheap are two very different concepts. Cheap is spending the very least without regard to quality, and that includes quality of life. Frugal is spending time, emotion and money only on that which is most important to you.
In the past 40 years I have camped, cruised, been to Disney with children, had a timeshare in St. Maarten, flown and drove to destinations, stayed in hotels and with family and friends. I spent a lot of money and next to nothing and through it all, I’ve made a couple of observations:
Disney with children under 10 - when you ask them what they liked best it’s usually “the pool”
It’s not a vacation if you are doing everything you do at home, but in a different location.
If you know when airlines, hotels and cruises offer the best pricing, you can plan your best vacation at the best price.
I am entering my 2nd act (3rd or 4th for those of you who know me) as a cruise consultant for Expedia CruiseShipCenters and am sooo excited to have the tools at my fingertips that tell me when the best pricing will be on cruises, land vacations and more. But again, it’s not just the price, it’s finding out what is most important to you for your best experience and not spending more on what’s not. And most frugally, it costs you nothing to explore your vacation options with me.
