took a hit both physically and financially over this past Memorial Weekend. 🇺🇸

Sometime between 3-4pm on Friday afternoon this huge section of our tree fell into our neighbors yard. On the way down it took our power line with it and ripped the entire electrical box off of our house. ⚡️

The guests checked in and realized they had no power and quickly found the reason why. Our cleaner had just finished up there an hour before. 😬

We met with the guests and came up with a plan of action. They were so kind and understanding and just went with the flow. 🤍 We brought them a cooler and some ice and made sure they had flashlights and such.

We spent the rest of our Friday night calling endless electric companies to see if anyone was available. Mind you it was Friday night on Memorial weekend with many things going on it town. Many of which said they weren’t available because they were at Chris Stapleton that night. It seemed like a nearly impossible task.

By Gods grace we were finally able to get someone to the property at 9:30pm followed by the energy company turning the power back on at 2:30am Saturday. It was quite a situation.

Tuesday morning .peter56 and his team got the tree cleaned up and Caden helped Chad put up the new section of fence. Just like that the problem was fixed. 🤣

If you know us well, you know Chad and I have a lot of little problems that happen to us frequently. However, we have come to realize that when you take things as they come, ask for wisdom from God and a few close friends, nothing is impossible.

When problems come your way, assess the situation with a clear head, come up with a clear plan, and know that nothing is impossible with God.

God was present in this situation: 1. The electrical box didn’t hit the ground because our grill caught the fall. Chad almost moved the grill earlier that week. 2. The tree didn’t hit the neighbors hot tub in their backyard. 3. The tree only ruined 12 boards of the fence and didn’t break the whole fence down. 4. No one got hurt 5. We were able to get an electric company to the property that day 6. Our guests were so patient with us when others wouldn’t have been

We’ve been hard at work on many properties this week while the weather has been getting nicer. ☀️

This past fall my dad painted some brightness on to 💛

This week he added the flower baskets to give it some life. 🌼

Next up we will be working on grass, a retaining wall, and a sidewalk leading from the front door to the driveway.

We are always thinking of ways to keep the place interesting and provide updates so that our guests enjoy their stay to the fullest.

Our kitchen may be small, but it offers all the necessary items to cook up a great home cooked meal. From a blender all the way down to extra napkins.

A little before, during, and after of our egress window project

We are very pleased with how it turned out. Typically we are the diy type, but this is one project we hired out and we’re so glad we did. It made it quick and easy so we could have guests the day before construction and the day following.

Working on making the property safer and more pleasing for every guest.

Spring has sprung 🌸

is ready for some spring cleanup outside since all the snow has melted around it.

Also just a friendly reminder to remove covers off your A/C unit before guests try to us the A/C with a cover on.

We also brought out our dehumidifier in the basement again because there’s nothing worse than sleeping in a cool, damp basement.

Can you spot the tulips trying to poke through the rocks? We weren’t sure if they’d survive through all the landscape work we did in the fall.

These guests were the sweetest ☺️
They stayed during the week last week. Had a few kids and got stuck in Sioux Falls a little longer because of the storm. They asked for a late checkout and did All my laundry 🧺
They left the place so clean and left a sweet note in our guest book. It’s such a pleasure to host families with great values.

got a sweet update the other day.
We switched out all our old fans to fans with remotes. Super easy to use just click a button and your fan can be at one of three speeds. Also, the lights can be turned on and off with the remote too.
This will ensure that when our guests are ready to relax for the evening they can just hit the button and not have to get back out of bed.

We are happy to share that we now allow dogs
After a lot of back and forth of being undecided we made the decision to allow dogs. We have the proper yard space for them and have supplies ready to go. Our first guests with a dog checkin tonight. We’ll see how this goes and keep you posted along the way.

Worked on a little organization project the other day. We were having a hard time locating our concierge items and snacks for restocking so we bought two three drawer organization shelves for just that. Now they are labeled and in each properties storage closet for easy restocking.

Worked on an outside project today
This will help our guests have an easier transition from street parking to the house. When the snow falls they used to have to walk to the corner now they can walk right up.

We provide snacks for our guests. They don’t always get eaten. So I need your opinion. What are a few of your go to snacks when you get to your destination?

Water 💦
At we stage the property to fit the needs of the guests that are arriving next. So when there’s six guests checking in, we leave six water bottles. We also remove the labels so they don’t look so cheesy. Additionally, we leave a filtered water pitcher for guests to use during their stay as well. I don’t know about you, but I don’t drink tap water 🥴 and I don’t want my guests to have to either. Maybe it’s because I grew up with a Culligan man dad. 😆 I also put them in the refrigerator so they are cold. I clean many and hosts don’t put water in the refrigerator. We serve it how we like it.
What are your options about water at a short term rental? What do you like?
