Our beautiful rivers are sometimes closed for short periods of time due to flooding. This frees up time for all the other activities our area has to offer like outfitter guided horseback trail rides, hiking on the vast conservation, and of course side by side driver training 💛

⚠️ River Closure Update 5/28/24 - 8:48 am ⚠️

The upper and middle Current River are now open to non-motorized vessels, from Montauk State Park to Log Yard.

The Jacks Fork is now open in its entirety.

Remember to use caution when floating recently re-opened stretches of river! New hazards and fast, murky water will make floating more dangerous than usual. Be safe, wear your PFD, and be aware of your surroundings at all times!

The rest of the Current River remains CLOSED to non-motorized vessels (Log Yard to Gooseneck). Alley Spring Campground remains CLOSED as well.

🎵 It's the most wonderful time of the year... 🎵
..for fungus fanatics in the Ozarks, that is. 'Tis the season for Morchella species, more commonly known as morels, to produce their fruiting bodies. These wild mushrooms emerge when conditions are right in the spring, usually April to early May, and are considered a delicacy to mushroom hunters across the midwestern, southern, and eastern United States.

Like all mushrooms, morels exist primarily as a web of cells known as mycelium, and the part that we recognize as a mushroom is actually a reproductive structure. As such, picking the mushrooms does not harm or reduce the wild population of the species since the growing part of the fungus remains in place and alive in the ground. However, if you want to give something back for the mushrooms you harvest, just carry your bounty in a mesh bag; the mushrooms will continue to release spores as you walk and seed fresh patches that will last for years to come!

Morels are notoriously difficult to spot, but tend to be easier to find after brush and dead leaves have been removed by fire. The use of prescribed fire in the Ozark Riverways and surrounding conservation lands makes this area a prime hunting ground for morels. Gathering wild edibles, including morels, is permitted within the Riverways, up to 1/2 bushel per person.

Spring is here 💐We have two creek crossings on the way to the house. The pictures are from February 11th, on February 10th the crossings were dry. The videos are from yesterday afternoon. We have pretty little yellow flowers 💛 The whole property was severely overgrown prior to our purchase and I’m told there were once great gardens all over the property 💐I’m excited to see what else pops up after the clearing. The amount of ground we covered without hitting pavement was immense 🌲The Shannon County Clerk can help with obtaining the permits necessary for driving ATVs on main roads📝
