Paris, on t’aime!
After a late night arrival, we awoke to a brisk sunny morning. Finding more boulangeries and pâtisseries on our way to the Montmartre area than we could dream of, we had to eat our way through the city- croissants, quiches, bread, oh my!
Basilica Sacré-Cœur was absolutely stunning, and had perfect views of the city. We tucked in, lit a candle for our family’s, and enjoyed the ethereal music the nuns produced.
Stopping at a traditional French restaurant for lunch, we enjoyed frog’s legs, escargot, French onion soup, and champagne, of course!
Continuing our exploration by foot and metro, we checked out the Moulin Rouge before heading to Champs Elysees and the Arc de Triomphe.
Finding many large and small marché de Noëls (Christmas markets), we ate the most amazing ham and cheese raclettes (fresh melted cheese? Oui. Toujours).
A quick peak at the progress on Notre-Dame, Paris, and we continued on. Kids spotted a crêperie, and we all enjoyed resting our aching feet while it began to drizzle outside, as we overlooked Île de la Cité.
Walking back to our charming boutique hotel home for dinner, the kids were exhausted and begged us to let them rest while we wandered out.
A date night in Paris?! C’est parfait! Félix and I found a basque restaurant and had the most wonderful dinner- the cheese was a highlight, and even this ham avoider had to admit the jamon in Paris is like NOTHING in the US. Call me a convert! 😂 We tried a digestif, and patxaka aux pommes sauvages- a delightful apple-like sipper that was the perfect finish to our perfectly Parisian day. My heart is so filled and in love with all things France. 🇫🇷

Our first full day in London was a jolly good time! We started with the Tower of London, checking out the Bloody Tower, the armoury, the Crown Jewels, and the torture chamber (scavenger’s daughter, the rack, etc). Did you know there was once quite the menagerie of animals at the tower? Polar bear, tigers and lions, and even a room special built for an elephant!!
After chatting with the yeoman wardens, we headed over and up the Tower bridge, checking out the glass floor lookout, both towers and the engine room.
Lunch at a nearby pub (meat pie, fish and chips, mushy peas, and pints for the parents) hit the spot and let us rest a spell. After a quick walk to St. Paul’s Cathedral, Grace hit her jet lag wall (she woke up asking me why British people slept so off and on, too cute) and needed a quick hour nap.
Back at it, we hit the streets to check out Hyde Park (winter wonderland was absolute chaos), and Covent Garden’s holiday market. Gelato, dancing queens, paddington bears, and Harry Potter gift stored out, we walked along the Thames to Westminster Bridge, spotting Big Ben, the Winston Churchill statue, Westminster Abbey, and the Eye.
Miles walked, dozens of underground stations, and a million memories made with my favorite people.
