The SSF Group in Serbia is visiting the Beli Dvor (White Palace) in Belgrade today. Here they are singing Boze Pravde (The Serbian National Anthem) to a crowd which includes His Royal Highness Prince Aleksandar and Her Royal Highness Princess Katarina. Such a wonderful opportunity to bridge the Motherland with the diaspora!

Slavic Adventures along with the Midwest Diocese have put together this 11 day-10 night full board camp for our upcoming next generation, teenagers.

This camp brings together learning about your Serbian Orthodox Heritage while exploring some of the greatest treasures we have in our church. Along with fun activities, this will leave our campers with many wonderful memories for years to come.

Along with many day trips to see exciting and beautiful places, we will have classes covering Religion, Culture and History to keep you engaged and to learn during this camp. You'll have plenty of time to make new friends and memories during this camp!

This two week historical tour will cover historical facts and visit where the little known Halyard Mission Tour occurred during World War II. This operation, which happened in the current day Serbia and Bosnia & Herzegovina, was the largest air rescue mission that was conducted behind enemy lines.

With the US lifting travel restrictions, airfares going to Europe have gone through the roof! However, keeping an eye on what's going on, its not to late to start planning an August/September trip to the Balkans. Slavic Adventures would like to invite you to join us in September of 2022 for a tour with the Halyard Mission Foundation through Serbia and Bosnia & Herzegovina to explore the trail of the Halyard Mission!

The Halyard Mission was the largest airlift behind enemy lines during World War II. This successful mission saved over 500 Allied Airmen stuck behind enemy lines with the help of General Draza Mihailovic and the the Chetniks. Despite its great success, it is not a well known operation until just recently. The work of the Halyard Mission Foundation has been to educate people about this heroic, yet little known mission in one of the most daring rescues behind enemy line.

Tour Dates will be Sunday September 11th to Saturday September 14th 2022 departing and arriving from Belgrade Serbia.

Sremski Karlovci is a picturesque town nestled between the slopes of Fruska Gora and the Danube river in Vojvodina. This town is of great historical value in Serbia, as it contains the first and oldest Serbian High School which specializes in linguistics. In the city square you can find the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, which is a prime example of Baroque style architecture and iconography which is prevalent in churches dotted throughout Vojvodina. This church contains relics of Saint Arsenije Sremac, the second Archbishop of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

While you are in Sremski Karlovci, you can taste many of the wonderful wines made from the vineyards located on the slopes of Fruska Gora. This include the desert wine Bermet. Local legend has it Bermet wine was served on the Titanic as well as the Vienna Royal Palace in Austria.

In the heart of Belgrade lies one of the largest Orthodox Cathedrals in the world. Located in the Vračar neighborhood on a plateau overlooking the city is the Temple to St. Sava. Construction on this large cathedral started in 1935 and finally the mosaics inside the Cathedral were completed in 2020. One can only appreciate the beauty inside the church and in the crypt downstairs by seeing it in person. Pictures absolutely can do no justice to the work that has been put in through generations to make what stands today so beautiful.

You could spend hours inside and still not see all the delicate work that has been put into this place of wonder. From the moment you walk in the Narthex all the way to touring the awe-inspiring crypt downstairs, your heart will be filled with joy and beauty that radiates inside.

A ja mislim na te cesto....Beograde divno mesto

Belgrade is the capital of Serbia and located on the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers. This beautiful city is home to one of the largest Orthodox Churches in the world, the Temple of St. Sava with a capacity of over 10000 people. Belgrade has numerous beautiful neighborhoods and each has its own culture and character. You can find Kneza Mihaila pedestrian zone in the center of the city with numerous kafanas (cafes) and world renown clothing brands located all along this boulevard.

You could spend weeks here and not see all that this wonderful city has to offer. For sure Belgrade is a must see place for anyone traveling through the Balkans. We will spend the next few days highlighting some of the must see sights in Belgrade.

Slavic Adventures is celebrating our first birthday today! We celebrated by doing our own tour in Serbia over the last few weeks

We would like to thank all of our customers, vendors, fans and family for all the support!

We had a wonderful trip to Serbia in June and took many amazing photographs we hope to share with you soon. Maybe one day you will join us to see all these amazing places!

Your inner foodie would love to spend some time in the Balkans. These are some examples if wonderful breakfast foods you can find in this corner if the world.

Ustipke- fried buckwheat flour doughballs with a side of raspberry jam

Kacamak- cornflour porridge topped with smoked bacon a little bit of goat cheese to help you get your day started

Komplet Lepinja- The crowning jewel of breakfast. A wonderful soft bread smeared with egg and Kajmak (heaven for the tastebuds its a butter and cream cheese mixture popular in the balkans). This is topped with smoked prosciutto to give you the strenght you need to get through the day. You can add fresh hot peppers to the top to give your taste buds a treat you will want again.

U Novom Sadu, U Novom Sadu hej....

This beautiful city of Novi Sad in the Vojvodina region of Northern Serbia is just a little different from the rest of Serbia. As it was a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the beautiful architecture is set apart a little differently from the rest of Serbia. The Austro-Hungarian influence uses pastel colors on a lot of buildings across town as well as beautiful churches spread across the area.

These photos are from Trg Slobode (Freedom Square) at the end of the Pedestrian Walkway known as Zmaj Jovina. Pictured here is the Name of Mary Catholic Cathedral and the city hall located across the square. If you look at the roof of the church, you will notice the beautiful patterns carefully placed on the church giving it a unique flavor that isn't readily found many other places.
