Instagram!! What going on? It’s been a while since my last update, which is probably a net positive as we’ve been cranking in the travel industry with loads going on 🛩

I’ve also been fortunate enough to join a phenomenal trip to Alaska! We visited Nat Han’s new Bear Camp in the heart of brown bear country in Lake Clark National Park - the second least-visited park in the US! 🐻

I have tons of content that I’ll share shortly so stay tuned!

Coincidentally, I celebrated 40th birthday during the trip, which was a magical experience I’ll never forget. I guess this photo is the quintessential shot! 📸

I went to Poland this weekend - yes, Poland. And it’s beyond phenomenal. Expectations were shattered, in fact.

I was in Poznań, and the vibe was very laid back and welcoming. Poznań is a vibrant, colorful city in western Poland with a lot of potential, and an excellent stop if you’re coming from Gdańsk en route to Wrocław (pronounced “Vrots-wav”) and Kraków. Or you can visit easily coming from Berlin.

I’m in Schiphol now flying back home after a quick trip, but I’ll get to the obvious questions as soon as I have a moment to collect my thoughts and share my experiences 💙💛

For now, I’m going to inhale a coffee and run to my gate ✈️

Out with the old and in with the new!

How many of you have been on city tours throughout the world where you seem forced into an uncomfortable high-pressure sales situation? You know the one…you’re standing around awkwardly and like eight people are rolling out massive carpets you have zero intention of busying 😬

In Morocco, the older generation of guides made (and to some extent still do) this a normal practice because they get a commission from the shops; ergo, they care more about taking you shopping than actually showing you something amazing about their city.

Not to worry when booking with me. Take my guide Kamal (pictured here) in Marrakech for instance. Kamal is one of the new generation of guides in Morocco that understands such experiences aren’t sustainable for the long-term future of tourism in the country. If guests have unpleasant, high-pressure sales experiences, chances are they won’t recommend the destination to friends; and over time, the city or area begins to develop a bad reputation where people don’t want to visit.

Private tours with us focus on maximizing your experience that is always tailor made to your interests, and we always add in elements of special access to sites you can’t find online - they’re “ungoogleable” simply put.

It’s almost 2:30pm here on the West Coast, which is officially coffee time ☕️😴 Anyone else feel me?

This coffee truck was one of multiple novelty truck outlets at the separate caravan property at in AlUla, Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦

The funky, retro vibe of the caravan property aims to give guests a feeling of nostalgia from RVing across the country (assuming we’ve all done that, right? 🤷🏼‍♂️).

Nevertheless, the property was a lot of fun with an ice cream truck, food truck, vintage ping pong table, skateboard, and board games.

If staying in a customized RV isn’t your thing, you can always stay at the main Habitas AlUla property and come over to the caravans for breakfast or outdoor movie night (complete with projector on massive rock wall). Either way - it’s a vibe more photos to follow).

Throughout my career, elephants have seemingly followed me wherever I go. From the endless plains of the Serengeti to the wilds of India’s rich jungle, I can’t seem to escape these pachyderms 🐘

Most recently, I found an elephant in northwest Arabia in the form of AlUla’s imposing and surreal Elephant Rock - no mystery here how the monolith earned its namesake.

I loved the little seating areas, which offer perfect views and a laid back vibe. At night, the atmosphere is even more incredible.

Elephant Rock is one of so many places to explore in AlUla, and even after our 5-night stay, we didn’t manage to see absolutely everything. I guess that means I’ll have to go back soon 😉

The art of storytelling is an innate phenomenon that only a few truly master.

Our “rawi” - Arabic for storyteller - Suleiman was a true master of his craft. As he took us through the ancient Nabatean tombs of Hegra, he made the city come to life with stories, significance, and splendor.

Suleiman is already a legend locally in AlUla, and it’s only a matter of time before travelers to the Kingdom start asking for him upon confirmation.

Suleiman happily stressed that one has to earn their trip to Hegra. It’s simply that special, and it’s massively reassuring to know that this spectacular site will not be open to mass tourism and affordable coach tours just to make a quick buck. They’re already doing it right, and the future is incredibly promising 🇸🇦

Right…

So I’ve traveled throughout the Middle East / North Africa region on numerous occasions. Oman, Tel Aviv, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha, Cairo, Jesusalem…seemingly everywhere with a great food scene.

Never did I ever expect the food in Saudi to be some of the best and most surprising, innovative cuisine I’ve ever had. And this is to be completely commended being so new to the global leisure tourism business.

I honestly thought we would be eating chicken kabsa, hummus, and dates the entire time. I was wrong, thankfully.

When the new cities of NEOM and Diriyah really come into the map in addition to the insane Red Sea Development Project, expect the world’s top chefs opening restaurants in Saudi.

However, anyone traveling there now won’t be disappointed. We are incredibly well the entire trip, and not one meal was a dud. And believe it or not, this is just 1/3 of the awesome dishes we had.

The future is bright in Saudi - and tasty. 10/10 recommend.

Meet Amaal! Amaal was our guide at AlUla’s spectacular Jabal Ikmah; a mountain north of the AlUla Valley featuring over thousands of rock inscriptions in Aramaic, Dadantic, Thamudic, Minaic, Nabatean, and Arabic.

Amaal was asked why she chooses to be covered when Saudi women now have the choice of dressing how they want. Her decision - explained in flawless English - was to honor and respect her grandmother. When she goes abroad, she doesn’t cover at all and is comfortable either way.

Her family is totally fine with her dressing with or without covering up, but she simply made the choice out of respect.

By the way, Amaal drives, lives alone, has zero pressure from her family to marry/have kids, and is financially independent.

Amaal’s story is one of many, and it’s amazing to see a country changing so rapidly (in fact, daily) before our eyes.

One of the most iconic destinations in Saudi Arabia, Qasr Al-Farid, is located in the archaeological site of Hegra, also known as Mada’in Saleh.

If this looks familiar, chances are you’ve been to the ancient city of Petra in Jordan. Both were built by the Nabateans, however, whereas Petra was an actual city, Hegra’s function was a burial site. There are ornately carved tombs scattered throughout a massive, spectacular area, which makes for an unbelievable afternoon of discovery.

The best part about exploring Hegra now is the lack of mass tourism, which I hope the Kingdom takes into consideration as it continues to open up to the outside world. Some countries have made the mistake of poorly regulating the impact of high volume tourism in relation to their national treasures, and the end results always lead to the site’s degradation.

This is Saudi’s moment to shine, and after being here for nearly a week and seeing how open the tourism authority is to dialogue with our trade, I’m confident they’re heading in the right direction 🇸🇦

Touareg vibes while checking out the new .alula - set to tentatively open in September, this resort will be the ultimate for pioneering luxury travel in AlUla 🇸🇦

Unfortunately, photos of the site weren’t permitted, but I’m confident this will be a phenomenal addition to the explosion of luxury properties opening here over the next 2-3 years.

The surrounding area in the background is nearly identical to the scenery featured in the classic film Lawrence of Arabia with Peter O’Toole and Sir Alec Guinness 🤩

Big Sur Bliss! Fell in love with this afternoon. If you’re looking for an understated epicenter of positive energy, unbeatable views, legendary hospitality, and tastefully luxurious accommodation that match the aura of the destination, look no further!

This afternoon’s Pacific Coast Road hike was excellent; a medium-level stroll for a couple of hours with a super knowledgeable guide. He incorporated the history of Big Sur, taught me about the medicinal purposes of the local flora, and was a wealth of information on the best hikes all over the area ⛰

What did you do when your social media shut down today? One of the more productive things I did was cute videos of sea lions just like this little family 🦭 The African safari specialist in me hesitates getting this close to wildlife, but in Galapápagos, proximity like this is totally normal and ok. The animals have no fear and are totally chilled out by your presence. I really appreciated how well the sites in Galapagos National Park were managed. So impressive! Casablanca’s Hassan II Mosque, third largest in the world after Mecca and Medina, can accommodate 105k people during religious holidays 🕌 A massive engineering undertaking and built entirely over water, this mosque is one of the most captivating places I’ve ever visited. About last night…it was great to chill at a little secluded Moroccan beach with a few locals.
