Youth Virginia Regiment deserves all the credit for putting together this memorable learning experience for PPS students, as well as those of us who stayed to see the reenactment after the Fort Nelson Chapter NSDAR Centennial Monument Rededication! Special thanks to Kathryn Tribble and Tom Sasso for their tireless efforts in bringing history to life for countless students and youth reenactors, and to the VA250 Virginia Humanities Grant that helped fund this and other elements of Lafayette 2024: Return to Portsmouth!!!

The Hill House Museum really shone brightly during this month of festivities. Thanks to all the hard-working volunteers, and a special thanks to Alexis, who pulled my fat out of the fire the night of the Progressive Dinner!!! Thanks to you all, the dessert course in the beautifully lit garden was just PERFECT! My teenage grandaughter, who adores Regency era movies, was in awe at the Hill House Museum Farewell Tea!! Her mother and I were pretty WOWed, as well!

So many children have learned about Lafayette through our month-long celebration!!! Whether during a special showing like Vive Lafayette in October, or any other day, The Hill House Museum is definitely a place home schooling families, and all families with children should visit at least once! At only $5 per guest, it's a bargain!!!

Today, students and staff from Hope Homeschool Co-Op had a wonderful visit to the Hill House Museum! They enjoyed engaging with the knowledgeable docents and learning all about the fascinating Lafayette exhibit.

Moses Myers Remembers Lafayette was one of the highlights of our bicentennial celebration of the General's return to Portsmouth in 1824. The prominent Jewish Merchant and Revolutionary War veteran was portrayed by History Alives's Greg Eatroff. Many thanks to the Jewish Museum & Cultural Center for hosting this interpretive presentation.

This amazing lady was a sounding board and a partner in crime throughout the planning and implementation of Lafayette 2024: Return to Portsmouth and I neglected to thank her at the arch ceremony yesterday.
Thank you Wendy Matthias and Fort Nelson DAR!! We could not have done it without you!! https://www.facebook.com/61562542091172/posts/122112489362418069/?mibextid=rS40aB7S9Ucbxw6v

Wendy Mathias is President of the Fort Nelson Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. Wendy wrote our first grant and promptly followed it up with a second, both of which were awarded by DAR! She has also been invaluable as a sounding board. She and Pam McKittrick have been faithful participants in our VA250 Committee meetings where many Lafayette Bicentennial related business occurs. Fort Nelson DAR has created Lafayette curriculum for students and committed to donating books for our libraries. Wendy and her DAR sisters will be pivotal as "boots on the ground" in October. The Lafayette Centennial Monument dedication is their baby, and I know it will be a terrific kick-off event for the BIG DAY: October 25th! We appreciate all the work you've done, and all the work you plan to do to make this 1824 commemoration a SUCCESS!
