The Black-fronted piping-guan's habitat has been decreasing every year and since 2004 it has been considered endangered and at serious risk of extinction. Although it's a bird that is becoming increasingly rare and hard to see, it still shows up in some places on our tour in the Atlantic Forest.

This was one of the most exciting moments of our trip to Colombia 🎉🎉 We received a request from a client who wanted to take photos exclusively of Harpy Eagles and luckily we were able to help him achieve his goals. In a town called San Jose del Guaviare, about 1 hour and a half from Bogotá, there is a Harpy Eagle nest with an 11-month-old chick that was very easy to see and take photos of. There was a moment during the visit to the nest when the chick called its parents for a long time, probably because it was hungry, but they did not show up. Perhaps this is a strategy used by the parents to encourage the chick to explore more of the surrounding areas and become more independent and it seems to have worked. The week after our visit, our guide told us that the chick was already practicing flapping its wings more, exploring other trees and moving further and further away from the nest 🦅 👏🏼 Do you have a dream of go birding in Brazil or Colombia? 🐦‍⬛🌳 I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts, The Birders Show, and the topic was Richard Prum (an excellent famous ornithologist) top birding destinations and the answer couldn’t be any other. The Atlantic Rainforest in Brazil! The fact that he has birded on every continent gave his answer added weight but he also said that the variety of birds and the diversity of biomes made the area particularly attractive. According to Prum, the area demands repeated visits! Prum is practically obsessed with Cotingas and one he singled out to be seen in the Atlantic Rainforest was the Black-and-gold Cotinga. Besides being beautiful, its stunning song can be heard when two males duel. For Prum, it’s the equivalent of a hallucinogenic experience.
