Sometimes all the elements come together in one photo. The wolf crossing the river, the eye contact with the camera, her ears forward, and the paw up! One thing we teach clients while photographing animals is looking for their ears forward if the opportunity presents itself. An animals ears forward makes them appear aware and strong. Their ears back makes an animal look concerned and scared. Have you ever noticed that in a photograph?

Amazing wolf encounter last week on tour! We were driving in Lamar when we spotted a coyote hunting along the road. As we looked closer we were surprised to see a wolf among the sagebrush next to the black wolf. As we stopped to watch we saw 2 more grey wolves come over the hill to join him and these were some of the photos we captured.

One composition technique we teach clients is the importance of your angle when photographing wildlife. This bison photo is a prime example of a slightly up angle giving this bull a strong stance and impactful delivery. Message us for a winter tour in Yellowstone this year if you are interested in images like this.

We love a good fox hunting sequence, how about you? We love teaching clients the art of “anticipating the shot”. With a fox the head tilts, the ear twitches and the rear legs flex getting to pounce. Have your camera set to continuous high and “spray and pray” once you see the fox take lift off!
