You will stop at The Grove in the historic Farmers’ Market, Los Angeles’s largest open-air market. Rest and enjoy the large central park area with its animated fountain or enjoy live shows performed at the base of the statue The Spirit of Los Angeles. Once you’ve relaxed a little, be sure to stop at some of the more than 140 shops, boutiques, cafes, and markets, including over 60 fashion outlets found in the marketplace’s nearly 600,000 square feet of retail space. You will have approximately 45 minutes to purchase lunch or browse. The La Brea Tar Pits have been seeping natural asphalt to the earth’s surface for tens of thousands of years making it one of the most important and unique geological features in Southern California. This area has been classified as a National Natural Landmark and the nearby George C. Page Museum exhibits the fossilized bones of animals from the Ice Age that became trapped in the tar. Your photo stop will be 15 minutes. Your trip wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Olvera Street, Los Angeles’s downtown historic district which is part of El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument. You will have 20 minutes to see the tree-shaded marketplace which has a variety of craft shops, restaurants, and roving troubadours along with some of the oldest Los Angeles monuments including the Avila Adobe, the oldest existing home in the city and a California Historic Landmark, built in 1818.
