The 1st and 4th seasons for bull elk combined with cow elk are a draw state wide. The 2nd and 3rd seasons are over the counter for bull ONLY. You can draw 2nd and 3rd seasons combined bull elk and cow, but you must apply for it. All draw applications are DUE THE FIRST FEW DAYS OF APRIL every year.

Location:
Uncompahgre Wilderness National Forest and BLM Lands in the San Juan Mountain Range: 18 miles south from Cimarron, Colorado and 13 miles up the Little Cimarron Rd 864.

Amenities:

The 800 square foot rustic cabin is heated by wood and your host will be the owner who has lived in the cabin during all seasons. While he can't guide you, he will share locations on the map where elk are likely.

All meals, including packed lunches and snacks are provided. Bring your choice of drinks. Successful hunts are typically the result of hunters staying out all day.

Indoor heated shower.
Outhouse close to the cabin.

You MUST have a 4x4 vehicle, ATV/side-by-side.
For rifle season you will need chains for your vehicle/ATV as well.

Do it yourself hunt with a host!

The Little Red Cabin is an off the grid cabin built in 1942. It sits right next to the Little Cimarron River. It is located 1 hour and 20 minutes east of Montrose, CO off of Highway 50 bordering the Uncompahgre public lands. The Uncompahgre National Forest Access is less than 1 mile. Nearby access to Owl Creek Pass Road which leads to Silver Jack Reservoir and over to Ridgeway, CO (45 miles). Neighboring towns include Lake City, Ouray, Silverton, Telluride, Ridgway, Gunnision, and Montrose (Click on a town to see what they offer). It is a most excellent area for all four seasons!

This is a cabin rental with amenities. Two queen beds. Has solar power, propane refrigerator/freezer, propane oven, indoor shower, wood heat, and outhouse. Perfect getaway for hunting with your buddies.

We just finished the final hunting season and we are looking forward to 2023. The elk were around in small numbers. If you’re willing to spend all day hunting, you’ll intersect some cows and bulls. Contact us if you’re interested in booking lodging for the fall of 2023.

Spent some time vacuuming, mopping, cleaning the stove pipe, hooking up the water and hot water heater. Next trip will include some fishing and riding the ATVs.
