All U.S. citizens who want to travel to the 27 member countries of Europe’s Schengen Zone (shown in pic below) will need to register with ETIAS or risk being turned away at the border.

The registration can be completed online or though the ETIAS mobile application. The process will take around 10 minutes
and cost 7 euro (non refundable). Those under the age of 18 or over 70 still need to have an ETIAS but will not be charged.

Most applications will process within minutes. It is possible however that your application may take longer to process. If so, you will receive a decision within four days. The process can take between 14-30 days if additional information is requested or an interview is required.

Your ETIAS travel authorization is valid for three years or until the travel document you used in your application expires - whichever comes first.

With a valid ETIAS travel authorization, you can enter the territory of these European countries as often as you want for short-term stays - normally for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. However, it does not guarantee entry.
