What cocktail do you think is most associated with glamour? The upper class? The glitz and glam of Hollywood?

I'm sure you may have guessed more than a few, but if your first guess wasn't a Martini, then you were wrong.

The Martini is as classy as it gets, and there is a reason for it. Its long and (widely unconfirmed) history places it within the upper echelons of cocktail history.

Martini Recipeee! 🍸

Ingredients:
2 ½ ounces London of dry Gin
¾ ounce dry Vermouth
1 dash of orange bitters (for sweetness)
Lemon twist or olive garnish

Preparation:
Stir gin, Vermouth, and bitters slowly in a mixing glass filled with ice for one minute to thoroughly chill and to minimally dilute.
Strain into a chilled martini glass.
Garnish with a lemon twist or olive.

"Like countless other events across the country, the capital city’s 2020 edition of Pride was derailed by the coronavirus pandemic, leaving local q***r communities unable to commemorate the institution’s 30th anniversary in person. Though missed, the forced isolation induced by the virus also underscored the value of gathering—and, in the process, provided a vital chance to reflect on the people and moments that delivered us to this point.

Austin’s modern iteration of Pride began in 1990 at Fiesta Gardens, but its LGBTQ communities have been making and defending q***r spaces for more than 50 years. In 1970, following the Stonewall Riots in New York City, several local le***an and gay rights groups like Austin’s Gay Liberation Front and the Gay Women’s Liberation (which broke off from the men the following year) were formed. The impacts of these coalitions were felt almost immediately when, in June 1976, Mayor Jeff Friedman announced the city’s first ever Gay Pride Celebration Week. Later, in 1989, the March on Austin for Le***an/Gay Equal Rights united thousands of LGBTQ Texans fighting for equality at the Capitol."

French 75 Cocktail🍸

Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz Gin
1 fl oz Lemon juice
1 Teaspoon powdered sugar
Champagne!

Preparation:
Stir powdered sugar with lemon juice until the sugar dissolves.
Add gin then shake with ice and strain into a glass with cracked ice.
Fill with champagne the rest of the way!

"The first Nashville pride parade took place in June 1988 with help from the National Gay and Le***an Task Force; about 250 people marched from Fannie Mae Dees Park to Centennial Park. National attention was garnered by the festival in 2010 when headlining entertainer, Vanessa Carlton, came out to the attendees; she began her set by saying "I've never said this before, but I am a proud bisexual woman." The 2015 festival drew an estimated 15,000–20,000 people, making it the largest gathering since the event began. Records continued to be shattered in subsequent years and the 2018 Nashville Pride festival boasted 35,000 attendees over a two-day period, with nearly 8,000 marching in the Equality Walk. The 2019 festival drew a record crowd of over 75,000 people for two days of planned events."

So, grab your girlies and swing over to the nearest bougie cafe to get your hands on this socially acceptable morning cocktail ✨

Classic Mimosa Recipe 🍸

Ingredients:

1 Bottle (750 ml) of Champagne
3 Cups of Orange Juice
1 Raspberry or Strawberry for garnish (optional)

Preparation:

In a pitcher, pour 3 cups of orange juice and chill in the refrigerator.
Right before serving, add the chilled bottle of Champagne to the mixture.
Pour into Champagne flutes.
Garnish with a raspberry or strawberry.

Happy National Rosé Day! Let's celebrate with a Rosé Sangria recipe, shall we ✨

Ingredients:
Orange, lemon and strawberries
Sugar
Rosé wine
Brandy
Sparkling water, optional
Mint, for garnish

Preparation:
Mix the sangria fruit with sugar and let it macerate or stand at room temperature and break down. This helps the fruit flavors permeate the wine even more.

Add the rose wine and brandy. Throw in some lemon slices.

Refrigerate for 1 to 4 hours. This allows the flavors to meld and develop.

New Orleans Pride is a festival that began in February 1971, when the newly formed Gay Liberation Front of New Orleans presented a "Gay In" picnic in February in City Park, the first such event in the state of Louisiana. Several other gatherings were held throughout the city that year, and intermittently thereafter until it became an annual event in 1978.

In June 1971, the Gay Services Center and the local chapter of the Daughters of Bilitis organized a Gay Day Picnic at Popp Fountain at City Park. The 1978 event, held in Jackson Square, was the first to be identified as gay pride. This event was hosted by the Pink Triangle Alliance. Later that year, a larger event called "Gay Fest" was presented in Washington Square, just outside of the French Quarter.

The first street parade was held in 1980. In 1981, the event moved to Armstrong Park, and was emceed by New Orleans native Ellen DeGeneres. By the mid-1980s, Gay Fest, under the direction of Ambush Newspaper, was plagued by financial difficulties and personality conflicts. In 1988 "Gay Fest" was changed to "Gay Pride." Through the 1980s, several organizations spearheaded the annual events.

Start off Pride Month right with a Coco Flamingo Recipe 🌈

At the Midnight Cowboy, an Austin, TX local speakeasy (converted from a former brothel masquerading as a massage parlor), support for the LGBTQ+ community is a must.

One of the local bartenders, Caleb Scott, created a pride drink called the Coco Flamingo, named partially after his Instagram handle, that bursts with flavor in the most unexpected ways.

If you want to try it yourself, here’s how to make it!

1 ounce Bacardi Coconut Rum
1 ounce Bacardi Tropical Rum
¾ ounce Martini & Rossi Bitter
¼ ounce Martini Fiero
½ ounce Lime Juice
½ ounce Grapefruit Juice
¼ ounce Red Pepper Simple Syrup
Ice
Rosemary for garnish

Preparation:
Combine all the liquid ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake until well combined.
Serve in a Tajin and Chamoy rimmed hurricane glass over crushed ice.
Serve with a sprig of rosemary for garnish.

If you’re a luxurious person, you’ll be interested to learn about this historic hotel.

Built in 1924, the Stephen F Austin Royal Sonesta was one of the first high-rise luxury hotels in the city. It was named after the Father of Texas himself: Stephen F. Austin (duh). He got this nickname after successfully colonizing Texas by bringing more than 300 families to the area in the 1800s.

This hotel was a notable spot for celebrities and several presidents, including Lyndon B. Johnson and the two Bushes. Many presidents used this as the location for their campaign headquarters.

A little fun fact about this building is that it was the first in Austin to have a lighted roofline. This is a feature it still has to this day. ✨
