Why Should You Provide Behavioral Health Services Now?

COVID-19 has emphasized the importance of mental health services. According to a June 2021 report, 40% of people had mental health or substance abuse problems. Patients/clients receiving home care experienced unprecedented levels of anxiety and depression due to the increased isolation caused by COVID-19. Still more troubling, the su***de rate in many states now exceeds the COVID-19 mortality rate. Over the past two years, COVID-19 quarantines and closures have strained access to mental health services despite the demonstrated need for them.

In this session, we'll discuss why your organization should provide behavioral health services, and how adding this service can assist patients/clients with managing mental health conditions, which can negatively affect their medical comorbidities.

Why Should You Provide Behavioral Health Now?
May 12 @ 11:15 am – 12:15 pm
The Covid-19 Pandemic has brought to light the explosive need for Mental Health Services. A June Report (reference) showed that 40% of people admitted they struggled with mental health and substance abuse issues. Quarantines and shutdowns due to COVID-19 have made it hard for people to access behavioral health services. Our home care clients suffer from increased isolation which causes depression and anxiety at unprecedented rates. Su***de death rates have surpassed COVID death rates in many states. You can provide Behavioral Health services to help your clients manage their mental health conditions that we know impact their medical co-morbidities. Learn why and how your agency can provide Behavioral Health services.

How COVID Increased Behavioral Health Needs and What Your Agency Can Do to Address Them

A mental health crisis triggered by COVID-19 is escalating rapidly. US adults are now 8 times more likely to meet criteria for experiencing serious mental stress. According to US. census bureau data as of May 2020, one third of Americans report symptoms of depression and anxiety. Su***de rates in some cities are predicted to be greater than deaths from COVID-19. Mental illness has profound effects on one’s ability to manage medical co-morbidities, thus having a trickle-down effect on quality of life, hospitalizations, and compliance. The traditional model of where people receive mental health has changed, and Home Health can play a major role in addressing this staggering unmet need.
