I was fortunate to grow up on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, when I went away to college my friends quickly gave me the nick name "Tommy Tahoe" and it stuck.
I've always taken great pride in my home -- I have awesome memories of hikes with my family, Sunday barbecues on the beach, swimming in the lake and skiing with friends.
In 2017 I finished chemo therapy for Lymphoma. My recovery goal was to ride to ride the Flume Trail with my brother. The emotions of beating cancer combined with the natural beauty and the shared experience of being with a loved one brought me to tears that day.
I want others to feel the joy riding with friends and family while enjoying natures beauty.
Tahoe Has Become More Accessible for More People
For me, life on the North Shore during the 1970s and 80s was a bit different than it is today -- an inflatable raft was your watercraft, Diamond Peak Ski Area was Ski Incline and getting around town on my BMX bike took a lot of energy.
Things have changed for the better.
On the water, kayaks and SUPs have allowed more people to enjoy the beauty of Lake Tahoe.
In the winter, snowboarders share the slopes with skiers -- bringing the mountains to life with a unique style and excitement.
And its Only Getting Better
Now, eBikes are transforming the way we see Lake Tahoe.
For many of us, the steep inclines of the mountains around the Lake have limited our willingness to ride bikes and experience its full beauty. eBikes (Electric Bikes) have revolutionized our ability to experience all that Tahoe has to offer.
With less effort we can ride an eBike up the mountains with the best views and travel longer distances to explore the beautiful coves and beaches.
Sustainability and Sharing the Space
We are dedicated to sustainable tours that protect the beauty of Lake Tahoe and respect others recreating and living in the area.
eBikes are allowed on some backcountry trails and not others. The various parks systems are working to manage the changing technology. The International Mountain Biking Association has found that erosion caused by electronic mountain bikes is the same as traditional mountain bikes.
On our tours, you’ll have the opportunity to get these bikes up to 20 mph if you want but when sharing bike trails with other riders, strollers and walkers safety is the top priority and we’ll ask you to keep speeds reasonable.
If you are in town for a few days, consider your carbon footprint – reduce your car trips by renting an eBike.
According to the League to Save Lake Tahoe, “One of the factors in the Lake’s clarity loss is the deposition of fine sediments and nutrients from the air.” And the primary factor is automobile use within the basin.
